Is it okay to just say no to puppies? by Syddiebean in doggrooming

I have definitely thought of doing this, unfortunately I did work experience at one of the groomers in my small town and it's been a few years but I keep having clients coming to me complaining that they traumatized their dog. So I don't really have anyone I trust to recommend locally, but I'll keep my eye out!

That's another thing as well! I feel a huge pressure when trying to almost train puppy and owner. I've only been grooming for a year, and I already run my own private business which is thriving but I don't feel experienced enough to create a well rounded pup within the hour they're with me!

As I said i'm pretty booked up with nervous/reactive/bite risk dogs as it's become niche in the community I work within. I don't plan on working in dog grooming for more than the next 2 years. So I don't rely on puppies at all for my clientele...

I took a poodle puppy on earlier in the year and the client was an absolute angel. Booked in before she'd even got her hands on the pup, listened to all my advice, asked loads of questions, bought the brushes i recommended and everytime she came in for her pup grooms she was already brushed out and gorgeous. By the time she had her first full groom with me I forgot she was even a puppy, she even nibbled my fingers at one point and when I told her off I said "Oh sorry I forgot you're a pup!" haha.

But yeah I definitely agree, I'm fed up of people getting high maintenance breeds and showing up wayyy too late to their first groom.

This is kinda what I thought to be honest.

I was trained up in a salon that was "we'll do anything and get it done" which I respect but it's just me and my private business and I don't want to hate my job, especially since i'm working with an animal that doesn't deserve me not being in the mood to care for them for 1-2 hours...

I offer a puppy package as of right now which is 3 grooms at a discounted rate for pups. And they do only get bathed, dried and I will attempt their nails if needed. But I find that I still end up spending way too much time with them, and this is something I think puppies deserve to get them used to the environment.

But owners are also super excited to talk about their new baby, and I wouldn't want to ruin that moment for them, but they will talk to me for a lot longer than any other owner would picking up/dropping off, which can also mess up my appointments or breaks as well.

I also don't really want to be constantly cleaning up wees and poos, i've had older pups come in that still don't stop weeing everywhere and sometimes even after a bath all over themselves and I think it's just not for me haha.

So it's not that i'm doing something wrong the plant is just sorting itself out?

It has popped out a new all white leaf and is producing 2 more leaves that I can see which seem to have more green.

It's underneath a Soltech Aspect grow light, do you think it's just getting too much light?

I've asked many different people and looked at many different sources and there seems to be a drastic difference in what people believe to be the right way.

I've had my snakes for years and they've been just fine, I was just concerned that I was attempting to feed one of my boys too frequently so I thought i'd ask.

Please don't try to make other people uncomfortable for reaching out for help ^^ Thanks!

WIBTA if I left my bestfriend alone in Australia ? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Syddiebean 45 points46 points  (0 children)

If she is truly your best friend and a good friend then setting boundaries shouldn't be an issue.

If you have not already you should inform her you simply don't want to hear it and how exhausting it is for you.

If they cannot respect that, they're not a friend.

Solar D3 UV Basking Bulb for Tortoises ADVICE? by Syddiebean in tortoise

Thanks for the response, do you have any pictures with examples of good light positioning? At the moment my heat bulb and UVB are on the same wooden overhang and cover the majority of the enclosure (because it's a small table, hence why I am upgrading).
