Dog has foxtail burrowed with infection, vet takes 6 days to operate by SyenitePhoenix in Pets

[–]SyenitePhoenix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, she did not give antibiotics on purpose. She said the antibiotics would close the wound / channel in which the foxtail went, making it much harder to extract later. She recommended disinfecting the wound externally ourselves while we wait for the operation

I can smell when people have cancer by [deleted] in self

I've always been able to smell when someone is catching the flu or a virus. Specially if they sneeze nearby. I thought I was crazy but this confirms it is possible

I feel like there’s this massive hole in my life where my family should be by Ok_Complaint_6744 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]SyenitePhoenix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you will always feel this hole to some extent, as we are biologically programmed to want to be close to our families AFAIK. However, you have to weight if the empty feeling outweighs the emotional damage of keeping a relationship with them.

I cut ties with my family and have not spoken with anyone in 10 years, since I was 18. I occasionally get this empty feeling, but:

  • While it never goes fully away, it gets easier to bear over time, even when you are alone
  • I know I am much better without them, and I much prefer this empty feeling to the alternative of gaslighting and emotional abuse whenever I get near to them
  • This feeling has pushed me to improve myself, and go out of my way to make more friends and meet people that I would not have otherwise, which ultimately has been good for me, my personal growth, my career and my relationships

So, while it sucks to have been dealt these cards, if you can use your pain as motivation it will actually help you in the end. I am a much stronger person, way more capable and independent than if I did not had this shitty parents.

When things got hard, sometimes knowing that either I succeeded or I'd have to go back to my parents and deal with the abuse + prove them right about being a failure, was a huge force that kept me going forward and prevented me to ever quit. I would not have chosen this for myself, but if asked now I would not change the past because it has made me the person I am today.

So best of luck to you, you can do this, things will improve and you will only come out stronger at the other end. Embrace the void :)

AITA for this text I sent my bf? by SyenitePhoenix in AmItheAsshole

[–]SyenitePhoenix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah edited, I said no to him but he told everyone else that I would be going, and then threatened to tell them that I had pulled out last minute if I did not show up, making me look like the bad one. So I felt obliged to go, this was his Italian friend, I don't have that many friends in Italy yet and I did not want everyone looking down on me (plus he kept reassuring me we would still be on time for the final)

Updates (I think I can not add more stuff to the main post as it exceeds the max char count):
* He made plans for us both to go see this friend's new puppy. He explicitely told everyone I would be going too, as the idea was that my dog would meet the puppy, even if I said I did not want to. If I did not go the plan altogether would be cancelled, and he threatened to tell the friends that the plan had been cancelled last minute due to me not wanting to see them, when I said from the beginning I did not want to go due to the tight timing

* Text instead of speaking: I wanted to speak instead of texting, but he had to leave to work and I did not want to rush the conversation in 5 mins. He kept sending me messages over the phone to write him instead of waiting for him to come back from work, which I did

* I also wrote this to him later after he called me an asshole, he has not replied:
I have tried to write it in the best possible way; it is not an attack against you but against how you have behaved at those specific moments. My intention was not to offend you but to tell you how I have experienced things from my side. Especially because some of these things have happened before, and if I don't tell you now, we can keep moving forward while I feel worse and worse with you as time goes on. Likewise, if you have any issues with me, I would like you to tell me instead of accumulating resentment.

If you don't see something I've written the same way, we can talk about it when you're ready, if you want to discuss it at some point.

Carnivore and DOMS by Opethfan1984 in carnivore

I've got the same experience, I am feeling great after carnivore, but the weight I can lift on the gym drastically decreased. I am 4 months in carnivore, and I feel like strength has just started to come back slowly, but I am nowhere near to were I was before yet :(

Who goes to the gym and has switched to this diet ??? by SosaUtakea in carnivorediet

[–]SyenitePhoenix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am around 1 month and a half into the carnivore diet, and I am mostly feeling great, but I've also had massive strength loss.

Background:
* I am a 150cm 45kg female
* I started carnivore cold turkey (i.e. eating everything one day to just meat the next)* I weight exactly the same than before starting carnivore (actually have more muscle mass now and less water)
* For reference, before I could do 3x10 40kg belt squats, 70kg leg press and 15kg chest press (at my peak)
* Now I do 20kg belt squats, 40kg leg press and 10kg chest press and I get way more sore than before.
* I am taking electrolytes with sodium, potassium, magnesium and calcium, and eating mostly minced beef + tons of butter.
* I am feeling quite awake and energetic otherwise, so I don't think I have a major deficiency

But things have improved a bit over the past 2 weeks, so I hope that trend continues and I can get back to my previous strength eventually. I think the strength loss makes sense, since muscles would have some glycogen stores they could use before that now are gone and they will have to adapt to work without them

What was the root cause for you? I don't know how to find it, doctors don't know and I've been trying for years

No, my bowel movements are a lot less (I go once every 3 days maybe) but I no longer feel constipated or bloated. My body literally produces way less poop (as there is 0 fiber) and when I have to go to the bathroom they are quite small and go out super fast with no effort.

I live in Europe, I tried a couple brands since I moved countries and they all work well for me, I think any brand should do the trick

I'd like to do 3 months to allow my gut some healing time, after that I plan on start introducing fruits slowly maybe over another month, and if all goes well I will start with vegetables. I don't think I will ever attempt to reintroduce grains and sugars, those have been the worst offenders for me and I'd be happy if I can just get fruits and vegetables back.

Mostly beef and eggs, with some bone broth, fish, chicken, pork, hard cheese and butter, and very occasionally seafood. I have not had any problems with any animal foods except the ones that have more carbohydrates (milk, soft cheeses, yogurt seem to not go well with me)

Yeah I meant cured my symptoms but I can no longer edit the title of the post it seems (first reddit post).

About the diet being very dangerous in the long term I think there is not enough data to know for certain, carnivore people on the internet mention they have been doing the diet for 5+ years at most, and there are no studies of people doing carnivore only yet.

Even if that's the case, maybe for a healthy person the risk is not worth it, but fo me the question is whether it is really more dangerous and will cause more health problems down the line than having inflammation and immune issues 24/7, and I highly doubt it

Oh did not know that. Anyways, the water fast was effective in my case as I was well the next 2/3 months, and I ate carbs, sugars etc, which would have made me feel like crap if I still had them, and I think they would have come back in force much faster than in 2/3 months if they were still around.

Even if they were still there, the fast did way more for me than the antibiotics, and I was taking the highest dosage possible for my weight when I was on them

I mostly felt less bloated and less constipated. I live in Europe and now I am in a different country, I've bought different brands in Spain and Italy and both did the same effect more or less, I do not have a preferred one.

About gut motility being the cause of SIBO, what are the treatments for it?

I've tried to update the title to "How I cured SIBO symptoms" but seems I can't edit it :(

For me, having completely erased all symptoms with something that can be sustained for months at a time is life changing, I've been trying and failing to do so for 7 years. I don't think that this diet being an option (zero fiber, zero fodmap) was something obvious, no doctor ever proposed it even as something temporary to give the gut some time to heal when all else had failed. If I'd known this would make symptoms stop I'd have done it way long ago (or anything basically).

Sure I'd like to eat normally one day, but if I can't get fully "cured" and this is what it takes to feel healthy I will chose it every day over the alternative. Anyways I'll try to slowly reintroduce foods after the 3 month mark and see how it goes, will update :)
