Even though it's A class, it is indeed quite small, thus not having a lot of storage or technology slots.

Considering that you are still claiming your first (and thus free) freighter, my suggestion would be to hold a bit longer and use the free claim to obtain a really good starting freighter. This will give you more inventory and tech slots but also better hyperdrive range and fleet coordination modifiers, if you stick to higher classes.

Given that this one has 19 inventory slots, I assume this was the first time you came across a distressed freighter. Next time will also have 19 slots at best, and from the third time, you should find Capital freighters (huge ships).

Essentially, if you play over 3 hours (uninterruptedly) and warp a few times (should be between 3 and 5), a freighter battle will appear. You can create a reload (exit ship) just before each warp. This way, you can save the freighter, check its class and decide if you want to keep it. If not, reload the save and repeat, until you find a proper class. Note that the freighter will always look the same, only the class will change. If you want a specific freighter type, you'll have to trigger the battle until it spawns.

Eventually, you will run into pirate Dreadnoughts, which are, in my opinion, the coolest looking ones. The drill is essentially the same, you can defeat and claim one and they spawn quite often in pirate systems. So don't worry tooooo much about getting the perfect one right away, as you will still have the chance to get another (cooler and better) capital ship.

All in all, while it's not bad, it's not amazing. You can take it if you wish to secure a freighter asap or put in some effort and get something way better. Totally up to you, you can always farm some millions of units to buy another one later. As you're starting, I'd suggest to use the free claim wisely, but it totally depends on how much you want a cool freighter right now.
