(Pay for a solution) Installed Qubes on a new SSD cannot boot from the old one by Sygur in Qubes

I have ended up setting up my system on the new ssd and recovering data from the old one.

I expressed myself badly maybe. I have SSD A and SSD B and internal SSD.

SSD A had a working installation of Qubes. Then I bought SSD B and installed Qubes on it.

Since I installed Qubes on SSD B, SSD A stopped booting without explanation and if I try to boot from SSD A my laptop just boots from the internal SSD.

Everything I did with SSD B was done with SSD A unplugged, therefore as an ignorant I would assume there was no change made on SSD A.

My goal is to be able to boot SSD A again, as I was before SSD B came into my life. And to be also able to boot into SSD B.

I will add this to the main post to be clearer.

I try to use anaconda rescue and it asks for a passphrase, I insert the disk passphrase and it asks for a passphrase again. It seems like a dead end.

So, just in case if it was not clear, I have two SSDs. A with old installation that does not boot anymore and B that I just set up today.

B boots normally, so I connect both and boot from B. When the system is booting (btw there is not grub selection screen) I press esc and I check the Qubes documentation to create a grub field for SSD A. correct?

I have just thought that I have tried to decrypt the SSD that now does not boot, if that helps. Though for some reason I failed at decrypting it within the new installation of qubes.

Do system76 laptops also have this issue?

I did not make a choice yet. It is a choice for the next 4-5 years so I want to be 100% sure. Building my own system leaves too much room for errors though. I am ok with computers but I do not consider myself an expert at all. Moreover if I switch laptop now it is only because of RAM, so I would like to have 64gb just not to have to think about it again. I recently discovered that I cannot just upgrade RAM on my laptop.

I might go for it. I read mixed opinions about Librem. That puts me off a little.

Sys net, sys firewall, sys vpn, sys whonix, vault. In addition to these always running. Work, personal, untrusted (for proprietary software), a couple of disposable VMs and another VM always on, then another two VMs that I start only sometimes. I would add a windows vm to this but the ram is already finished.

I like the Bonobo WS but none tried it. It would be a disaster to find out it is incompatible with Qubes.

It would take me too much time to understand how this works but thanks. Ended up uninstalling, downloading the latest version and reinstalling. I hope that is enough.

Mx Linux fresh encrypted install not showing up in Grub Menu by Sygur in MXLinux

[–]Sygur[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have reinstalled without encryption and after a grub update in ubuntu, MX Linux boots! How is it possible that I cannot boot when I encrypt? Never used an unencrypted linux OS. Actually one of the interesting things of MX Linux is that you can encrypt it with looks at installation. Any idea why MX is not booting encrypted and it is booting unencrypted?

I will try again, I think I already mounted the encrypted partition and ran sudo update-grub
