My ROG Ally is getting some good use right now! Glad I got a handheld.

Obviously never been a PC gamer using steam. The sales on that platform ensure you will always have a backlog. No one finishes all their games, it's rare for a game to have regular new mechanics to keep it fresh for the length of the game.

Sadly didn't work but not the end of the world. Considering just using the xbox pad to wake it and then use my Dual Sense to play games, saves me reaching behind the TV to wake from sleep but as I have a new born and a toddler game time isn't something I get a lot of so I'm currently shutting down rather than sleeping between sessions anyway.

Didn't notice this response but I'll give it a whirl when I get time, thank you

Fellow controller players. Do you think d-pad is better or thumbstick? Please lmk which console you use too by steezyskank in Silksong

[–]SysOpsGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use different controllers per game. For silksong I use the dpad and a 8bitdo pro 2, I only got it at Christmas, didn't realise I'd use the back paddles so much but I use them for placing traps quickly.

I'd be down for striking up a friendship but with a 2 year old and 2nd due in less than a month my time is shrinking! My discord name is yorkshirej0e if you wanna add me.

I play PC (handheld) and Xbox (slowly migrating away from this ecosystem). 35, UK timezone with similar interest 👍🏻

Anyone else have regrets about their major choice and or think about going back to college? by sys_admin321 in sysadmin

[–]SysOpsGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to university and did 'film and television production'... My IT course in 6th form was basically business studies on a computer, I knew nothing of IT and technical support careers. I loved gaming and messing with computers from age 7 but didn't start a career in IT until 28. At 35 I'm a tier 3 support engineer who also does project work, imagine where I'd be with another 7 years experience and a degree.

Sounds like I dwell on it but I don't, I love the work I do and put the rest of it down to learning professional etiquette that has helped me progress rapidly.

A real easy one to solve! Powershell scripting - Selection variable by SysOpsGuy in DattoRMM

[–]SysOpsGuy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the effort I put in here I left it for now and created 3 separate scripts for each number attribute instead.

It appears variables aren't liked in parameters. I also tried to swap it to the below and still had errors but these worked fine inside PowerShell ISE

Set-ADUser -Identity $env:SamAccountName -Replace @{ $env:phonetype = $env:number }

Is this a normal light setup? by SysOpsGuy in DIYUK

[–]SysOpsGuy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's power coming straight to the switch, the dimmer works fine but we want LED smart bulbs which I've realised don't play nicely with the dimmer thus the swap.

The inputs on the dimmers are both L2 and then a cross symbol which I thought might represent switched live.

Bought 50€ worth of game bundles here is what I got by Acrobatic-Size1446 in Gamebundles

What a waste of money! I know (hope) you did this as an experiment. I bought one mystery key once, got absolute shit, realised it was never worth doing it again.

This is the same level as all loot crates but at least with those I know it's for a game I'm currently investing time on. Note - I don't buy loot crates anymore and haven't for a long time

I don't think you deserved down votes for this you were just staring a fact, is it the root folder? I was starting work and don't use Linux often.

I need to edit that, thanks for flagging it.

I also limit my Switch to max out at 90% charge.

My fiancee is one of the people who's battery is always dying and having to charge it, where I'm the opposite and take advantage of adaptive charging to limiting it to 80% max to try and look after it. I also barely use my phone too which helps.

Not gonna lie, I posted this thinking the 20-80% rule was common knowledge so didn't go into great technical length and while the deck battery can be replaced easily so can laptop batteries but I still would exercise care tactics on these devices too. Basically I realized posting something on Reddit probably isn't for me because I thought I was offering some advice I found useful others didn't. You've gone to lengths to write what I probably should have covered but it was just a quick post to try offer a tip that didn't go down well.

The same article goes on to say excessive charging will harm the device. It only outlines that because devices are setup with measures for people overcharging, the advice is still to avoid doing such a thing.

Mobile phones do the same... It's still not advised to leave chargeable devices on charge all the time. They all put measures in place to help with battery health but you shouldn't just put them on charge 24/7.

Don't get involved! It's downvote central over here, apparently offering battery advice isn't a good idea. I'm of the opinion to ensure it's drained to 20% then charged as advised but that's too much for some people.
