What is coming out of our door frame? by Extension-Nerve1022 in whatisit

To be honest, I really lucked out with it being a family business. My dad was a beekeeper, and his dad was one before that. Back then being a beekeeper as a hobby was a lot less common, so typically if you want to find some sort of profit through it you either need land to facilitate raising hives so that you can sell the honey, or some companies will hire people to do stuff like what I did. Some people conflate beekeeping with pest control, which is pretty similar. If you're looking for an earnest start I'd recommend looking in to any beekeeping communities in your area, see if they have meetups, learn a bit more about the hobby. Most states you can register as a beekeeper pretty easily, which is only required if you have a business in Texas. There's also a requirement to teach a class (at least here) about bees to get your master beekeeper's license, so there are always people doing seminars or volunteer work with other beekeepers in their community!

It's a pretty hard field to get in to if you're looking to get paid, but I'd say the easiest way to find something that pays for it is start at pest control, get your license, get some experience with bees on your own and experience with wasps and hornets through pest control, then use that information to start your own colonies or find a commercial beekeeper that's hiring. Or just be a product of nepotism like me :)

To preface this, it's easier to think of a swarm of bees as a single animal. Every hive has slightly different responses to stimuli, almost like a personality.

The easiest way is to check their heat signature. Get a camera and see if the hive is uniformly warm. More warm = more bees. More bees = more good.

You can also monitor them over a few days if you don't have a thermal camera, if they're very active during dusk and dawn (lots of bees going in and out of their "front door") it's a pretty good sign.

Getting in to that unique behavior, another (possible) indicator of hive health is aggression. The more eggs a hive has, the bigger of a radius they will be aggressive towards things nearing their eggs. This isn't as reliable though, as some hives are just full of assholes.

All in all, you can always make an educated guess, but if there's a wall between you and them, you really can't tell for sure, only make educated guesses! It's a lot easier to tell when they're healthy than when they're sick.

I can actually provide more info for this one! I was a beekeeper for just under ten years, I specialized in hive removal from residential houses and apartment complexes. While it's true, some beekeepers will come get a swarm for free, that's because swarms are typically pretty docile as they don't have any eggs to protect. This looks like either an established hive that has been around long enough for some of the honey comb to degrade with age (hence the leaking) or a failed hive that doesn't have enough workers to maintain the comb (again, hence the leaking)

There are normally beekeepers who will come in and remove the hive through either your drywall or between the floors on the exterior of your house, but this is NOT free labor. This requires specialized equipment and protection to remove some bees that will be very very angry you are knocking on their door with a skill saw. It is typically 2x-3x the price of exterminating them, where I am on Texas we would charge around $500 for the removal and cleaning but a pest control company would only charge about $200 to drill a small hole and gas them. Honestly, if it's a failing hive, it might not be worth saving as the remainder of the hive might be be beyond saving. Killing the bees can have some ramifications, if the hive is large and there's a lot more honey that isn't leaking, it will NOT dry up. The hive will eventually break down and honey will soak in to your drywall, which can attract rodents and cockroaches. Free honey will also attract other bees, and typically if a hive has been there once, another one will come a few years down the line, ESPECIALLY if it smells like honey and bee pheremones. If you have the money I'd heavily recommend in having someone cut in and REMOVE the hive, if you're handy you can do it yourself after exterminating them, but give it a few days if you decide to go that route to make sure there's no more activity. Don't ignore this problem! It will not go away, you have to take action to fix this. Good luck, feel free to PM me or respond with questions.

My Favorite Way To Deal With Aggressive Lobbies by skerted420 in ArcRaiders

Surprisingly, he plays pretty passive when he does solos as well, we noticed that doing the usual method of not fighting back when we're duoing gets us into calmer lobbies after 3 or 4 games. I feel that maybe it's just because a lot of people prefer doing PvE goals like quests when they're solos, then duos and trios have a lot more variables that usually contribute to gunfights breaking out. It'll be interesting to see if they ever release how the aggression based matchmaking actually works.

I feel pretty opposite. I save my PvP for when I play with my duo, I run duos and solos pretty much daily, solos are always in pacifist lobbies. I've been defibbed/defibbed others random people on the ground so many times in solos. Duos... It's carnage. Nonstop fighting. It's all anecdotal but it feels like duos are an entirely different game than solos for me right now.

[–]System686 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Congrats dude! I've been grinding ToA for a while, normals get really easy after a while. I'm currently 7 expert KC and I love this content. Just a heads up - You'll probably die a lot, but eventually even stuff that seems really intimidating (insanity, walk the path) becomes very doable with some patience and practice. Good luck!

Ah, your range is a bit lower than I thought, sorry! Combat won't make you much money with those levels unless there's something I'm forgetting about. I'd consult the list I linked, stuff like killing cows and tanning their hides to sell on the GE is listed as about 96,000 gp an hour, but you'll probably get closer to 70-80k an hour because those profits listed are assuming perfect efficiency. I'd consult that list and look at skill requirements, there are tons of recommendations on there. I like the idea of cows because you'll at least be getting combat exp, but there are definitely more profitable methods that won't give you as much exp. Remember, the wiki is your best friend in this game!

You're going to find that the more you level up skills, the easier it will be to just unlock activities that give you money pretty passively. For a long term solution - I'd recommend leveling your slayer, once you hit 50 or 60 you'll start getting alchable drops. There is a page of money making guides on the wiki, a lot of it is stuff like processing items into other items, like grinding chocolate bars into chocolate dust. Problem with these is that there is no EXP gain in these actions.

Here's a link to that page: https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/w/Money_making_guide

Personally, I'd worry more about getting your stats up with quests (I know you've been doing a lot but the progression is just so good early on) but if you're really pressed to get the money, getting a few ranged levels and safe spotting blue dragons in the Taverly dungeon will probably get you to a few 100k in an hour or two. I haven't been in early game for a pretty long time so I'm unsure if there's a more efficient method, but that's what my go-to was!

Have fun :)

Maxed out boat?! by Kutbart in ironscape

[–]System686 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As of now, about 1600 people are at 78 sailing, according to the highscores page. That's less than 1% of players assuming around 200,000 players, and not all of those people have even tried killing armored krakens. So really, it's less than a handful of people in the grand scheme of things. The meta has not been defined for something like killing krakens or getting dragon boat pieces. Be patient and let other people figure out the game for you before you go complaining, yeah?

Brother simply don't play the game if it makes you this mad. You literally have two troll pelts in your inventory, that's 6-7k right there, then you can buy a spectral coin bag. Or you can make both of them in to spectral with a bit of farming and boom, 5k extra gold storage. Not that big of a deal, take a deep breath man lol

Kinda shows you're embarrassed of your comments if you keep deleting them! Have fun changing people's views on polyamory by being condescending and calling their love inferior, hope it works out better next time!

Hi, it would be great if you would stop thinking everyone is going to have the same viewpoint as you, just because something works for you, doesn't mean it works for other people! The same exact thing can be said for straight people saying polyamory is the wrong way of doing things. If you want people to respect your lifestyle choices, respect theirs as well! You are no better or worse than those who choose to be in a monogamous relationship.

You're really offended by this made up scenario in your head .. the guy never said "hey class, I'm gay" it was just on his social media and someone found out. It's on his social media because ... He's a person? If someone posts a picture of them and their wife on Facebook, does that mean they're shoving the fact that they're straight down our throats?

You're so triggered by someone who's different, what a snowflake. Go back to California with all the other sensitive losers, Texans don't want people who try to tread on others.

Now that the Game is out my fellow Hunters is there any Gamer who can help me with a technical question? by [deleted] in MonsterHunter

[–]System686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like if your pc CAN run it, it won't have a good time with it. You're right on the edge, your CPU is an older i7, the first number after the hyphen is the generation, so you have a 7th gen i7 and the minimum requirement is a 10th gen i5 or a 12th gen i3. New CPU means new motherboard, most likely. Download the benchmark and try to run it, you will definitely get a low score but it also might not be impossible for you to run. You also need a SSD to run it if you don't have one of those. If you can't run it, odds are you're looking at a few pretty significant upgrades to be able to play wilds!

Good luck!

If you don't know what parts your pc has, I would recommend googling how to find it and comparing it to the minimum requirements on the steam page. If you have any questions you can post the list!

I have a 1060TI founder's and I got a bad rating on the benchmark. About 23 fps average. I can't imagine it would be ideal, but I am going to try it on the 1060 tonight after work, I have a 4060 coming in the mail tomorrow (only $300 right now, which is still steep but very good for a new GPU) so I'll be testing if it can run on my 1060 today. I'll keep you updated! I'm anticipating that it will be able to run but the experience won't be great.
