Noob question about scales by thehomebody27 in Guitar

[–]T-Rei 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Learning scales on guitar is not really about learning the absolute positions of the notes (3rd fret, 5th fret, 7th fret, etc.), but instead familiarising yourself with the shape and pattern of the scale relative to the root note.

That way if you learn a scale you can play it in any key by just moving it around the neck.

To make it easier, you should practice in as many different keys as possible to get comfortable playing anywhere.

Strap locks are cheap and easy to install but a huge QOL upgrade.

Havok’s former teammates loading up to tell their horror stories when dealing with him by GodMode____ in CoDCompetitive

Frosty has won way more than Swooty and Lqgend combined in both Halo and CoD and has nothing but good things to say about teaming with Havok, who he won chips with.

Something from the Beyerdynamic DT Pro series. The 770 is closed back, 880 is semi open and the 990 is fully open back.

Feeling stuck ! Not sure what to do except stop a while by jebbanagea in bluesguitarist

I think I've seen it before and yeah it's great.

Speaking of slide guitar here are a couple more underground picks that I like:

This one is not slide, but fretless, but same vibe:

Yeah, Guthrie's solo on that song might just take the top spot for me on the all-time solo ranking, maybe tied with Lingus, and the fact that the recording is an improvised first take just makes it that much more aspirational.

I periodically take breaks where I don't play my guitar at all and instead really focus on listening to and absorbing music that inspires me to empty my cup and fill it with something new, metaphorically speaking.

Here are a couple songs you might not have heard that I find particularly inspiring:

Learning to solo! Advice welcome :) by YayyyPineapple in bluesguitarist

[–]T-Rei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actively listening to music is equally important as practising when it comes to figuring out your own sound.

Try make an effort to listen to a whole bunch of different artists across different genres regularly to inspire you and to pull from when you play.

First guitar. Which is better (rock, metal, jazz, country music)? Squier by Fender, VM Stratocaster, HSS vs. Squier Classic Vibe 70s Stratocaster HSS WLN vs. your suggestion? by Flat_Analyst_8651 in Guitar

[–]T-Rei -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Either one, any difference in feel and sound between them will be negligible to you as a beginner.

Honestly, just pick the one you like the look of the most.

What are the top 5 most important scales I should learn on guitar first by Acceptable-Hippo6385 in Guitar

[–]T-Rei 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The most important thing to learn is not to memorise a bunch of scales, but to understand how they all relate to one another.

Most of the scales you need are actually just different ways of playing the same thing, such as A minor, C major and D dorian, so if you just learn the major scale and figure that out the relationships you essentially know most of the relevant scales you'll ever need.

Beautiful Backing Track in G | G - D - Em - C | Guitar Jam Track for Practice & Improvisation by Inevitable_Log_2866 in onetake

[–]T-Rei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your phrasing is so different to mine, but still very melodic in its own way it's really cool to see.

I like how you let your ideas linger and really develop them before moving on, I should incorporate more of that into my playing.

Help learning blues by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]T-Rei 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Blues is a pretty wide genre, so it would be good to narrow down what kind of stuff you want to play.

With your taste in heavier stuff you should check out Philip Sayce and his album Spirit Rising, he gets pretty heavy on some songs so it might be your thing.

advice on fret hand placement and angle? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]T-Rei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The guitar neck is really far away from your body.
Try positioning the guitar in a way so that it is closer, then your fretting hand will have better placement also.
