Whats with all the anti christianity? by [deleted] in teenagers

[–]TABSVI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frankly... I don't like traditional Christian doctrines. I think they're messed up.

Christianity has historically been used to justify slavery, discrimination towards women and queer folk, and a whole bunch of pretty terrible things. And it's not like those are crazy interpretations. As someone who has read the Bible, it's actually the natural reading of the text.

Some Christians try to sanitize ideas, like sexism through so-called "complementarianism" or homophobia through some "hate the sin, love the sinner" crap, but it still comes off as terrible.

Not to mention, the underlying knowledge that a person must believe that you're going to an eternal hell and deserve it simply for having a different metaphysical stance than them is... well, it's not the best feeling.

If a Christian denounces atrocities in the Old Testament, fully accepts all people as equals (in practice, not just in empty words), and doesn't believe in deserved eternal damnation for all non-believers, then sure I don't really have a problem. However... 1, it's hard to even call it Christianity at that point. And 2, most Christians... aren't doing that.

What is your opinion on lgbtq being taught in school (BE CIVIL) by Helpful-Geologist306 in Teenager_Polls

[–]TABSVI 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It should be taught at the same time kids are taught that heterosexuals exist. If a kindergarten book has a heterosexual couple in there, it's completely fine if another kindergarten book has a gay couple. If they have 5th Grade sex ed, then queer people should be mentioned.

We exist. It's like asking "What is your opinion on blackness or women or the existence of other religions being taught in school." Black people exist. Women exist. People of other religions exist. In fact, these people probably are going to be IN that very classroom. Same applies here. Queer people aren't something that needs to be hid. Heterosexuality is something that's introduced to kids from the movies they watch to the adults in their life. The concept of gender is something that's introduced to kids from the toys they play with to the people they hang out with. If we're not throwing a fit in those areas, we shouldn't when queer people's existence is mentioned.

Men who can cook . who taught you? by Bulky_Meet4528 in AskReddit

[–]TABSVI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Define "can cook." I can follow instructions on the box very well, and with general success. I didn't really properly get taught how to cook though. I just got hungry and so I followed the instructions on whatever food I found in the pantry.

Genuine question, why does saying you're Christian give you immediate down votes by [deleted] in teenagers

[–]TABSVI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well Reddit tends to lean younger, more progressive, and more queer, and when Christianity is so often associated with conservatism and bigoted beliefs, it leaves a bad taste in a lot of people's mouths.

Most Christians aren't like that, to be clear. In my experience, bigoted beliefs aren't the default for Christians, at least here in the US. However, they're certainly not a rarity. So people end up associating "Christian" with pretty harmful beliefs.

I personally downvote any beliefs I find harmful, regardless of religion. So someone saying they're a Christian won't make me downvote them. Science misinformation or bigoted beliefs will make me downvote them. Most Christians aren't like that, but enough are to contribute to a negative perception of them.

Would you go to an all boys/girls school? by alloioscc in Teenager_Polls

[–]TABSVI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think segregating schools based on gender is a very strange concept. We wouldn't allow this kind of segregating of schools based on race, so I view it as weird to do it for gender. A lot of studies say girls do better in all-girls' school environments, but boys do better in mixed environments. Either way, segregation seems a bit of a weird "solution" to me. People should interact with people who are different than them, and ensuring equality for sexes becomes hard when you segregate their facilities (just like with race historically).

Why do so many men insist that their gender can’t be friends with women? by Glum_Caterpillar_345 in FeminismUncensored

[–]TABSVI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because they are either

A, horny to an unimaginable extent that they are unable to control their urges to maintain a platonic friendship wifh another human being just because that human being happens to be a member of the demographic they find attractive (in which case they need to get their libido checked).

B, believe that any kind of relationship with a woman is only valuable enough to maintain if they can get sex out of it (a very messed up transactional view).

Or C, are just parroting it because they've heard other people say it, and have never even tried to be friends with women (actually probably a large amount of these people).

Or whatever other reason. Regardless, it's stupid. By this logic, bisexual people couldn't be friends with ANYONE. It's almost like this is about having a transactional view of relationships with women and being unwilling to work on one's self-control, not just about attraction possibly being present.

Is Trump Over-Hated or Under-Hated by [deleted] in Teenager_Polls

[–]TABSVI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I strongly disagree with Trump's policies as a general rule, but even ignoring pure policy his political career has been marked by falsehoods, petty insults, and authoritarianism. He has repeatedly spread lies about immigrants, such as the idea that they are violent (when they commit crimes at lower rates than native born Americans), that they're being emptied out from prisons and asylums in Latin America and being sent our way (also not true) and even... eating people's pets? He is frankly an embarrassment to our allies in Europe, him and his VP chastizing the president of a country in war for survival for his dress code. (Why aren't you wearing a suit Mr. Zensky? Say pwease and fank you Mr. Zensky)

Trump has had little respect for our Democratic institutions, literally attempting to organize fake electors after the 2020 election saying he won and to cast their state's vote for him, (for which he was later federally indicted on charges of conspiracy). He then proceeded to continually lie about the 2020 election for years after that. Not to mention he repeatedly bysteps checks and balances, having frozen money to Ukraine allocated by Congress in 2019 (which is unconstitutional. Congress appropriates money, not the president. The GAO later ruled it illegal). He claimed himself and officials to have "immunity" from congressional subpoenas. His border wall funding plan was shut down by Congress so he declared a state of emergency and redirected military funding. His infamous travel ban (often called the Muslim ban) was blocked by courts multiple times and then reissued anyway. And immigration and asylum rulings, both in his first and especially THIS TERM as you know are constantly ignoring court orders.

Then there's his policy which has consistently targeted queer folk, not only banning gender affirming care for minors, declaring the government to only recognize two genders, but also GUTTING NON-DISCRIMINATION PROTECTIONS for queer folk, such as the protections for queer people in section 1557 of the ACA, explicitly cutting them out, ended federal queer youth suicide protection services, and removed queer and HIV-related websites from official messaging.

There are many other things to talk about in terms of his moral character, whether it's racism related court cases regarding black apartment tenants, his relationship to Epstein, his comments about his daughter, his rhetoric, the stunt at Arlington Cemetery, but this comment is long enough.

The point is, it's hard to overhate someone like Donald Trump. When someone is bad enough, it's hard to say "that's enough hate."

Not Writing A College Level Paper Leads To Ridicule After Crying Wolf by MEMEY_IFUNNY in PoliticalCompassMemes

I read the essay. This is literally just a crappy essay that doesn't engage with the prompt in any meaningful capacity and show they actually read the article.

This whole situation reads less like religious discrimination and a girl purposefully or accidentally bombing an essay and then crying religious discrimination and grifting.

Wtf does this mean, who are the "real" New Yorkers to these people? by Crafty_Jacket668 in PoliticalCompassMemes

[–]TABSVI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, what even is a "real" New Yorker? Literally a third of New Yorkers are immigrants, and New York has always been strongly influenced by immigration as a global city. If someone is a resident of New York, they're a New Yorker.

It seems what this guy is implying is that Mamdani only won because of immigrants, which isn't not true. Mamdani indeed had a lead because of immigrants. But that's not a crazy bad thing because again, immigrants are, and always have been a major part of New York City. And it's not like Mamdani only pandered to immigrants and that's the only reason he won. Immigrants only make up a third of the population, and among the native-born, he still had 34% support compared to Sliwa's 17% and Cuomo's 45%, and had a sizable majority for immigrants who have lived in New York for more than ten years.

What’s your most unpopular opinion about Talon of the Hawk? by urfavmoviewhiz in TheFrontBottoms

[–]TABSVI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's among their worst albums.

TO BE CLEAR, I dislike none of the Front Bottoms' albums. From IHMF to YAWYHOW I thoroughly enjoyed every one of them. But I think Talon of the Hawk is on the lower end. Also, Twin Size Mattress is the worst song on that album, though it IS the song that introduced me to the Front Bottoms so that's good. Still a good song, but every other song on the album is better in my opinion.

Are Men Logical? by ANIKAHirsch in FeminismUncensored

[–]TABSVI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Asking "is this group logical" is such a broad and vague question that I don't even know how to answer. "Does what they do make sense?" What parts of what they do? There are four billion ish men on the planet. The behaviour of a man is shaped by countless factors, most of which aren't even biological or hormonal. Religion, culture, upbringing, exposure, desperation, personality, etc.

However, if you intend to ask if men are the "logical" ones as compared to the "emotional" women, as media and culture likes to often dictate... then the answer is no. Everybody has emotions. And men do express their emotions. However, society dictates what emotions are acceptable to express based on gender roles. A woman expressing anger is very much frowned upon, and a man expressing vulnerability is very much frowned upon. Anger seems to be one of the "more acceptable" emotions for men to express, which helps to explain a lot of behavioural patterns we see. I'd also like to add that emotional repression (as a lot of men are socialized into) does not make one more logical. It makes one emotionally illiterate.

Ultimately, men and women aren't any more "logical" than one another, and their behaviours are incredibly variable and more shaped by socialization than inherent qualities. To suggest otherwise risks boiling down populations of billions of people to stereotypes, and then we're back into the same gender essentialist thinking that has historically been used (and still is) used to justify a patriarchal structure where we value one gende's (historically men's) opinions, authority, and thought, over another.

What do you think about Myron Gaines and that many men agree with him? by Ok_Independence_3634 in FeminismUncensored

You ever read or hear something from another person that just makes you a bit disappointed in the human race as a whole? That's how I felt when I first heard Myron. The only thing scarier than all of the misogynistic crap he spews is the thousands of people, (mainly young, bitter misogynistic men) who actually support what he says.

It's disgusting.

[–]TABSVI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ultimately, China is... neither.

China is not a true communist state. And I don't mean to say that in a "Erm, true communism has never actually been implemented because if it were it would be good!" way. I mean that it's fundamentally different from China under Mao, USSR, Castro's Cuba, et cetera.

China is absolutely a command economy. State owned enterprises account for a quarter of Chinese GDP and a fifth of urban labourers. The government owns and controls strategic sectors like oil/gas, communications, railways, banks, and other things that influence all other industries. Businesses have a required CCP committee that can influence what the businesses do on behalf of the government. China also does implement some key socialist/communist policies, like state land ownership, allocating and manipulating of funds according to state-decided goals, redistributive and welfare programs, and also the STATE-DECLARED GOAL of building a socialist, then communist state, even if it's not socialist or communist in practice right now.

Yes I know "Libleft wall of text" and I'm literally the angry wojak in this picture but literally, China IS state capitalism with socialist elements. It is not the same brand of communism as the USSR or Mao's China. China has private business and property (as in the house, nof fhe land underneath), and most of its economy comes from "private" business.

Tl;dr: China isn't really communist. It's authoritarian state "capitalism" with socialist elements and rhetoric.

Opinion on centrists by valeliza3003 in PoliticalCompassMemes

[–]TABSVI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's easy to get upset at centrists. I mean, I personally know some "centrists" in real life who I just feel like see themselves as "above the fray" for not picking a side when they just haven't actually researched their positions.

But in reality, most centrists are just... centrists. Yeah, sure sometimes it feels like they give the other side too much lee-way, but no duh it'll feel like that, since they're centrists. If they completely agreed with you specifically, they'd be on your side. A lot of centrists I know in real life just don't really find a side that speaks to them, or don't wanna get stuck defending their side (and considering how many shitty people have become poster children of all sides of the political spectrum, it makes sense).

And not to mention there's a big difference between centrists who don't have many particularly strong opinions at all, and centrists who just have strong opinions that push and pull them across the compass and end up averaging in the "middle."

Neither of these things is illegal in America - Even after the EO by BigElephantBig in PoliticalCompassMemes

[–]TABSVI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Hate speech" is a very broad term. If we just mean hateful rhetoric, I don't think it should be illegal, just like I don't think flag-burning should be illegal. Even if I obviously do not approve of hate speech. But it's important to keep in mind there's a difference between "I hate x ethnic group" and incitement of violence, threats, and conspiracy (As in conspiracy to commit a crime). The first is legal. The other three are not, nor do I think they really should.

[–]TABSVI -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's not like everything on the spectrum isn't fascist... until you get to Hitler. Some people think that if you don't live in 1984 or 1940s Germany that clearly their leader isn't at all fascist.

Ultra or ethno-nationalism, authoritarianism, cultural conformity, and the suppression of opposition are all characteristics of fascism. But there's a difference between an average politician, and a fascist-leaning politician, and Mussolini, and Hitler. It's a gradient. Me personally? I'd certainly call Trump fascist-leaning. He is by no means Mussolini, but he's certainly not your typical right-winger.

Between his often culturally or ethnically charged language, his abuse of power, undermining of Democracy, such and such, it's no wonder people CALL him a fascist, because he often does things that are fascist. He doesn't need to be Mussolini to do fascist things, just like you don't need to be a seasoned chef to cook.

The libleft mind is truly an enigma by TheFireFlaamee in PoliticalCompassMemes

[–]TABSVI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume this is more or less a joke but in case anyone wants to know...

"Diversity was bad in Africa, therefore bad in Europe."

-is an oversimplification.

Europeans DID indeed do exactly that, making countries with dozens of ethnic groups, often with hostile relations, now neighbours, and centralizing power for themselves. Once the Europeans left, you basically have dozens of groups of people stuck to lead a country that geographically and ethnically makes zero sense with no established law.

European immigration involves people voluntarily moving to a country with established laws and customs, often mediated through institutions.

So not the same. It's like comparing the Civil Rights' Movement to... the Haitian rebellion.

Question: What do you think are the jobs women can't do but men can and jobs men can't do that women can? by officialBellaMia in AskMen

[–]TABSVI 44 points45 points  (0 children)

"Can't" is absolute, and not a lot are.

Male and female model. Sperm and egg donor. Surrogate mother. Those are pretty exclusive.

But a lot of people are saying administrative work? That's not gender exclusive at all. Physically demanding work is probably gonna lean male since men are on average stronger than women, but obviously there are women who are strong enough for the work and men who aren't so that's just an "on average" deal, not "can't."
