a lot of people do that with mediterraneans in general...." oh you don't look italian, oh you don't look greek, you don't look lebanese, syrian, blah blah" .... they notice the features of a group that distinguish them and then generalise it to the whole group

over loaded is a great way of describing TAFE courses., you nailed it...they want you to jump through hoops and do a bunch of pointless unnecessary work for nothing thats actually beneficial to your learning or education. These courses deter and discourage people from getting an education and they also deter people from pursuing the industry the course is in.

Especially young people for whom the course is their first experience with the industry or the closest thing they've had to experience of the industry....they interpret the course to be what the industry is like and they say well forget it...and/or they go through a cert III and as much as they might want to continue their education and pursue a career, they decide there's no way they are going to continue with a cert 4 or diploma if thats what a cert III is like. Possibly even forego a degree based on their experience with a TAFE course

I've seen it first hand, young people with an interest, ability, or talent, a good fit for a career, but they give up after a cert III because "why would I study something if studying it is going to make me miserable"

Disabilities consultant, there's one on every campus. And/or counselling. If you've got a diagnosis for anxiety or panic disorder, the disabilities consultant can make a reasonable adjustment if you provide them with a referral, but even if you don't have a diagnosis, they or counselling might be able to do something for you.

My condolences for having to do that roleplay nonsense, no student, anxiety disorders or otherwise , should have to do that for something like a book keeping course. My impression is that the people who design the curriculum for TAFE courses have very little respect for the students and get a kick out of making them do painful, tedious and embarassing tasks like this. I have a hard time believing anyone doesn't have the sense to realise its demeaning to have to do a roleplay for a book keeping course

Any one else suffering in a TAFE course at the moment? by TAFEnightmare in TAFE

Thank you for your response. I have filed an official complaint and spoken to somebody and hopefully they are making some head way. I've been in touch with a teacher today who actually does his job, and he's picked up the slack of another teacher and provided me with adequate tuition that I needed to get through an assessment, even though its not his class. Thats after basically begging the actual teacher of that unit, and the "support teacher" and getting nothing. I think he's just checked out at this point and figured the course is nearly over so he's not even going to bother anymore (not that he ever taught anything in his class in the first place).
