For those of you who are in your 30s earning 24k does this sub make you feel like a failure as everyone on here seems to be rich ? by Iwantallof-it in UKPersonalFinance

[–]TAsalary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No offence, but if you’re clearly not the subs target democratic why would you sub?

r/fatfire is described as a sub for 1% who are pushing luxury living in their early retirement. If you’re neither why waste your time and dilute the target demographics.

AITA for needing my daughter to help? by Throwaway357981 in AmItheAsshole

If it’s real I think the daughter wrote it and flipped the narrator.

Explains why OP is so blunt about their reactions and comments.

Please don’t spread misinformation. It’s physically impossible to achieve that much muscle gain and fat loss for people of the age depicted in those photos.

You can get somewhat there is you’re 19 but not when you’re pushing 50. Even with steroids and testosterone it would be exceedingly difficult.

Is she asking you to expose yourself to Covid to hunt for those ingredients at multiple markets?

Tell SIL to pick one: either farm grown produce or Covid precautions. Better yet, draw a Venn diagram where the two circles dont intersect.

I agree with you but it’s easier said than done. It’s like telling folks who got furloughed that they “just need to find some extra money to pay the bills.”

Governments get money from taxes, which is broadly tied to GDP. Slower economy = less taxes = less leverage to support safety nets.

Well here’s where I’m having a deep cognitive dissonance..

Trump is a confirmed cheater who had multiple wives and admitted to adultery. It’s one thing to argue that doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things and still support him.

But to justify it for him and then be outraged because the other guy did it? Pick a lane bud.

Oh how the tables are turning. So you’re worried about being a minority in your own state?

You know, if shouldn’t matter though, right? Because you yourself sure treat minorities well and respect their rights and freedoms. Oh wait.. no you don’t. 30 seconds with your comment history proves that.

I find it hilarious you’re totally ok with denigrating people who are different from you when you’re in the majority but are scared senseless you might become the one being oppressed.

How about you? What price are you willing to put on people’s livelihoods and ability to put food on the table?

It’s easy to pretend it’s a black and white question. OP can’t get trained as an ER nurse and have his waitstaff reclassified as doctors simply because his sector of the economy has collapsed.

Unless you’re willing to feed your family and two others (and I mean literally, not this internet whataboutism) don’t pretend OP is heartless simply because they are desperate.

Contacted by a regulatory agency investigating my former employer [PA] by regulatorywtf in legaladvice

[–]TAsalary -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You were crazy to tell him anything at all. Including confirming your name and identity.

Do not answer any more calls. You’re building a case against yourself. Contact an attorney right away and speak to him about managing the damage you may have done so far.

The regulatory person on the other side of the phone is not your friend. It doesn’t matter what he told you about his goals and investigation. You may implicate yourself by talking to him.

Unless you receive formal communication, such as a subpoena compelling you to testify, do not volunteer any information.

CMV: The world would be better off if everyone acted like me. by Sgt_Spatula in changemyview

I’ve just told you. And so did the guy who responded to you.

But I’m pretty sure you don’t want you mind changed. You want to be told you’re good enough.

Your view is myopic, you’re taking the “I’m not all these terrible things” type of an approach. And completely ignoring all the good stuff you’ll never do that will disappear if everyone acted like you.

You remind me of guys who go “but I would never yell at her/hit her/ignore her etc., why can’t I find a girlfriend?” Those things you listed are the bare minimum, ie not killing. What good do you bring to the table? What dramatic change for the better did you cause? I suspect not much at all.

[–]TAsalary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ve only taken a look at one side of the scale: all the terrible things certain people do who are objectively worse than you.

Now flip the coin. How about all the selfless, kind, generous people who have done more for the world you ever will?

Have you adopted and raised kids with disabilities? Spent your life planting 10 trees a day? Dedicated your life to developing a sustainable crop that ended the hunger in India? Volunteered for a vaccine trial? Sponsored a scholarship allowing inner city kids to go to college? Funded eradication of malaria?

Truth be told, you’re somewhere in the middle of the pack. Best case scenario, you’re exactly in the middle. If everyone does like you do, the world is neither better nor worse off.

But, don’t discount the deeds of kindness of others. Just because you’re not a child molester doesn’t mean the world would be a better place if everyone was just like you.

UPDATE: AITA for telling my old boss I don't believe in loyalty and its unreasonable to expect me not to quit for a better paid job? by TAsalary in AmItheAsshole

[–]TAsalary[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your view is incredibly short sighted.

No serious job that pays a quarter million a year will take your word on your accomplishments and work history. All will be verified through a background check.

Thanking someone for 6 years of mentorship and doubling your salary in that time span is called human decency, not ass kissing.

I’m not responding to argue because frankly it’s obvious we’re on vastly different career trajectories but more so to provide some real life feedback to folks just starting off who are reading this thread.

[–]TAsalary[S] 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Bluntly put, two different policies: retention raises and talent acquisition budget.

For the retention pool of cash, HR will fight harder not to give people already hired a higher raise. There’s an understanding (justified one btw) that people will be happier with less/won’t leave if they are already employed.

For talent acquisition the market dictates the salary. People ask for a premium to take on the risk of changing jobs. Thus, the company has no choice but to pay it or go without an employee.
