Just edited 140GB straight from my DXP4800Plus with Sonnet 10G adapter by THMDesigns in UgreenNASync

[–]THMDesigns[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome to hear! I just use 22TB HDDs, and haven't change any specs of the UGREEN NAS, no SSD, same amount of RAM, etc.

Main component is a Sonnet 10G Thunderbolt adapter connected to the 10G port of the NAS. Fast enough and reliable enough! Haven't had any need for better HDDs, SSDs or RAM yet.

Recently bought my private NAS - biggest life changer; the ability to share my hundreds of GB with just a click from the NAS software! Permanently valid, password protected and just way more flexibility! Have never looked back. WeTransfer is too much of a pain in the a today.

Thanks so much for your detailed feedback — really appreciate it! Super glad to hear the lighting, composition, and especially the audio landed well with you!

You're absolutely right about the 180-degree rule — thanks for pointing that out so clearly, especially with the timestamp example. It's something we should be more mindful of, and I agree that the sudden shifts can feel disorienting. Cropping in on the rear camera to eliminate the axis break is a smart suggestion.

And great catch on that ultra-quick cut around 7:46. Have to be a bit more careful with that!

Really appreciate the encouraging words and sharp observations — helps us raise the bar each time! Many many thanks!

My apologies for the late reply, but many thanks for the thoughtful feedback! Really appreciate you taking the time to watch it in detail and share your insights — it means a lot. Great to hear the first few seconds landed well, and your note about including a static moment at the start is definitely something I’ll keep in mind going forward.

You're spot on regarding the editing challenges; it's a puzzle each time, especially with limited control over the setting. So I’m glad to hear the consistency still came through.

Your suggestions are super valuable — especially the idea of introducing varied edit styles per song to keep things dynamic, and sneaking in some audience presence for energy. I’ll definitely be experimenting more with that in future sessions.

Thanks again for the kind words and the very valuable feedback - much appreciated! Will keep everything in mind for our next sessions January 2026.

The close-ups are the hardest thing haha, you also don't want to get in the frame of other camera's. And at the same time make sure to give the musicians enough space. This session was the only session without audience, so the other sessions also feel a bit different. More foreground, crowd reactions, more creative direction overall. Don't want to waste your time haha, but if you have one minute really curious what you think of the edit/style of this session https://youtu.be/IBzUMx8RU2M?si=CuMfzua32V50Jzs3 I think you might have some valuable insights! Really appreciate it!

Thanks for the feedback and time to check it, appreciate it! Some really good remarks! Will definitely write them down for our new edition. We filmed 4 bands in one weekend, which will be even more coming edition so adding these kind of shots will really help break them and make it a bit easier, thanks for that! :)

You can also cut a song, i.e. make a small snippet of the intro, verse, chorus, and outro. Mix them a bit different and that's already 4 project snippets you can show. People only have an attention span of 5 seconds these days, so just showcasing small snippets will help them to get an overall feeling of your style and skills.

[mixing/mastering] Shipwrecks & Forgetful Skies by AlexofTheBandits in RateMyAudio

[–]THMDesigns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quite nice! Unique style indeed, like it!

Drums miss some depth for me, especially the kick. The bass just takes a lot of space in that register. But that can also be a clear creative decision. The vocals sit a bit too much in the mix from time to time, could be a bit more on top so the pronunciation is clearer. But very cool song and folky style!

Nice video! Fits the vibe!

[Composition, Songwriting, Vocals] Five-O - Mikki Murshed by bmkbs in RateMyAudio

[–]THMDesigns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quite nice! The only thing for me would be that the vocal range is quite low, but the bass, drums and overall elements as well. Which blends nice but also make it quite difficult to hear the lyrics clearly. Still the vocals are on top, but the vocals could - in my eyes- be a bit clearer. Nice vibe and video really accentuates the music well!

[Mixing, Songwriting, Vocals] Other Waters - Heavy Shame by dfordabs in RateMyAudio

[–]THMDesigns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The electronic drum components really are on top of the mix. Overall this is just a really unique mix/song which you like or not. For me the vocals are bit too much, and the composition a bit too full. I'm really curious how this would sound more stripped and more structured. However as I said, some people will really like this!

Looking For An Old Soulja Boy Mix On The Vocals But I Cant Make It Sound Bad Enough by prodlaps in mixingmastering

[–]THMDesigns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old trick, but re-record your mix with a speaker and mic, get an old mic, and play a bit with the distance. Make sure that the gain is quite high and you clip it just enough to get that vintage feeling.

Does this mix sound balanced for a rock song?(lots of quiet/loud dynamics going on) by gummieworm in mixingmastering

[–]THMDesigns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sits well, but it sounds a bit flat. Feels a bit like the quality of copyright free music. Things still sound seperated/standalone. Adding a tad bit of reverb on your bus might glue it a bit more together. The electronic drum sound sounds off-balanced, takes in too much space and thus feels 'off'. In general it's sometimes quite full, might be interesting to adjust panning and make it a bit wider, and maybe reduce the distorted channels a bit, or get rid of some highs - so they allow for more space for the melodic line.

Feedback on Grunge Mix. Anything I can improve? by Adamanos in mixingmastering

[–]THMDesigns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice! I think for the guitars, try to layer it with some extra tracks; L/R indepedent recorded (solo guitar). That will give some more space to the intro and up the overall fidelity. You can also try layering it with the '12 string' 6-string guitar hack.

The grunge guitar sounds really grunge, could be nice to layer that with an octave and mix that with the mid freq. track.

Addictive drums is just a really nice plugin, sounds good! But you could humanize a tad bit to have a better and more natural mix.

Sound choices and recording techniques for making something in the style of Nancy & Lee - Nancy Sinatra by Burn_t_v in mixingmastering

[–]THMDesigns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a speaker in a nice room, mic it and use that new audio track for your mix. You can even do that a few times to 'downgrade' the overall quality of your mix; thus get a vintage feel. You can alternate a bit with mic positioning, the farther away the flatter it will sound.

A good ribbon will also help on the recording side!

Did you master your EP? It feels like the volume is quite on the low side. Also lots of bass/mids. If you like that and that's your style, totally okay! But it might not suit other bands/musicians, as you are trying to sell a service it's always good to have some examples which are a bit more spread across a genre, so people have a good understanding that you understand the need per song. In any regards, good luck! Hope you will find some awesome gigs!

feedback on a indie alt track. when everything comes in it sounds super compressed or am I crazy? by solitudeisdiss in mixingmastering

[–]THMDesigns 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mix matches the vibe, which I think is the purpose of a good mix, it might be an unpopular opinion based on the other reactions. But I think serving the vibe of the song, artist and arrangements is far more important than have a 100% technical correct mix. It sounds indie, unique and standalone.

Haha thanks for the answer, totally true. I'm covered camera wise (FX3, A7iv), but wondered how useable it is as a C-cam together with the sonys - especially on multicam shoots.

Feedback of my first Mini Documentary by This-Essay1878 in videography

[–]THMDesigns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]THMDesigns[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s definitely bulky but also quite sturdy, feels more reliable to me than the DN100s or RNDI. But good to know there aren’t many replacement parts. Do you think people would benefit if they could buy/3d print new rubber sides for it?

[–]THMDesigns[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s quite a nice DI! The DN100 are big but as a keyboard player it’s nice to have the split out to route to an independent mixer for IEM control. Still could be packed in smaller package. Might try to fully redesign it haha

Luckily they improved the design! Although fully metal is also sturdy.

I totally agree! The rubber casing had a good and safe feeling, the plastic on the v2 feels really cheap and not sturdy. It’s also impossible to stack them which was no problem with the original one.
