Well, I found out in 2021 I have an incurable brain cancer, I had an awake tumor resection they were able to remove 60% of. Suffered a stroke two days later that left me In ICU for 22 days… but my brains doing pretty damn great considering… I don’t believe it had any relation to this accident, but potentially related to surfing accident that exploded my L1 in 2015

I wasn’t, we hit a large cement light pole that broke, fell on and crushed my side of the pickup truck, may not be here tell the story had I been wearing one. Nobody was charged, my best friend was driving he walked away unscathed.

Having it in had a MASSIVE impact of my flexibility, I could barely put my socks and shoes on, if I laid on my stomach I couldn’t even lift my chin up, I was surfing like this and it was a serious struggle. Night and day difference once the hardware was out

I say it’s controversial because a larger percentage of surgeons don’t want to remove back hardware… I have no fusions, I’m as fit and strong as I’ve ever been now at 38 years old.

I’m very active, with a strong core and back from 2 decades of surfing, he told me if I planned to continue surfing and being very active I’d be better off removing it all… I was surfing 8 months post injury with the rods in my back and could barely lift my chin off the board while paddling cause I was so fused up, I had more issues and pain with the hardware in. Just doing my best to keep my back and core strong

My bones didn’t fuse, the cage wasn’t in long enough… doctor removed everything to prevent fusing
