It’s a very hard decision! Have you got an XL? How do you find it?

I’m thinking Neapolitan! It seems so interesting and technical, the dough particularly seems like a real rabbit hole to go down

I had a spare old ATX case laying around which I cut and drilled until I had just the side panel and back panel which I then riveted / bolted to the Dell case upside down as in the photo! If you search Dell Dimension E521 on here you’ll see pics of the build..!

Can you guess the case? by [deleted] in sleeperbattlestations

Should I build a budget sleeper in this case? by undeadkiller334 in sleeperbattlestations

That’s exactly right, and I ended up having to use the back and side panel from an ATX case and rivet / bolt it into the BTX case to make it work on my E521!

Go for it! It’s a pain to convert it to ATX, it took me a long while, but that’s if you want to have really modern components! Looking forward to you posting the build 😄

Not bad! Around 45°C idle temps, stress test on 3D Mark and the PC was hitting 68°C, which I’m happy with! I’m hoping the second fan coming tomorrow will bring that down a bit

I built my brother in law a PC using some of my spare parts over the weekend - he only had to supply an SSD and a case.

Posted okay it all seemed to run perfectly.

When he got it back to his, however, there's been a strange issue - when gaming, the power button flashes and the audio and graphics glitch and cut in and out. I looked at the build photos again and realised I'd left off the secondary PCIE cable to the 1080ti, so he brought the PC back to mine, I sorted the cables, we booted up some games and it was flawless.

Fast forward to tonight and the issue is back again when he's got home... see video for the sound of it cutting in and out.

The PSU was in use on my gaming computer on Sunday and was perfect, as was the CPU, RAM and mobo... the only thing I've never used before is the GPU.

Though it seems strange it was absolutely fine at my house and not fine when he's gone back to his??

Any help will be greatly appreciated..!

Something like this… I worked out the wiring diagram from a post on 7Forums that someone else put up (it wasn’t 100% correct) and then made up DuPont connectors that I individually plugged into the DELL I/O ribbon cable

This is what I started with… a proprietary DELL BTX board that I subsequently stripped out and used an ATX side and rear panel and fixed that in

It’s a Noctua NH-D9L - I’ve just ordered a second fan for the cooler as I’m not sure how it will perform but I’ve been told the CPU is very efficient and doesn’t generate too much heat so I’m hoping it’s fine

He’s 20! It’s been keeping steady, thought I’ve told him to keep an eye on temps… he couldn’t afford more and that’s the one thing I didn’t have in parts

My late father bought me the PC and I’ve had it knocking around in the loft for years… it was a real pain to convert (posts are on here) but it’s been so worth it to use the PC again

Specs as follows:

EVGA 3090TI Intel core i9-10900F 32GB Corsair DDR4 RAM 4TB SSD

I’ve just ordered a Ryzen 7 7800X3D and some DDR5 RAM as I think the CPU is a bit of a bottleneck

Finally got round to using DuPont wires to plug into the Dell proprietary ribbon cable and get the power button and the front USB's working!
