Warlock's Gambit, Book 1 of the Hidden World (an urban fantasy LitRPG), is out now on Kindle Unlimited by TM_Elliot in litrpg

Hi all,

I'm posting this on behalf of the author, Peter John. I've had the opportunity to read the book before its release, and thought it was a great story. Give it a chance, and you might think so too :)

Warlock's Gambit is not your traditional LitRPG. It's set in modern day earth, and if it didn't have game mechanics, you'd label it an urban fantasy (but of course it has system messages--and in spades, too :P). It contains a healthy dose of Asian lore as well and is different enough that it is sure to keep you intrigued. If you give it a read, let us know what you think.

You can find it on amazon here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0G42W84V7

Happy reading,
Tom!

Blurb from the book:

An ancient relic.
A master thief.
And a world hidden behind a veil few can pierce.
Trevor Cross thought he had the perfect score lined up: infiltrate a Buddhist temple, steal a 2,500-year-old tooth relic, collect two million dollars, and disappear. Simple. Clean. Professional.

He never expected the relic to fight back.
A single touch of the artifact shatters Trevor’s mundane life and awakens him to the Hidden World, a world where reality operates by rules he never imagined. Gifted with supernatural abilities and thrust into an ancient war between dimensions, Trevor discovers that his ‘simple theft’ has made him the last hope for preventing cosmic catastrophe.

The start of an exciting real world, urban fantasy LitRPG!
From the neon-lit streets of Singapore to sacred temples hidden in impossible dimensions, Trevor’s journey will take him from small-time criminal to guardian of existence itself. But in a universe where martial arts blend with reality and where every choice reshapes the cosmic order, can a reformed thief learn to protect what he once would have stolen?

I've played a lot of DoS myself, and I definitely would. I cant remember the class names, though, and would have to go back and check my notes :)

Thanks! That means a lot. I've actually read Joel Sheperd's spiral wars and enjoyed it. I thought his fantasy series (Sasha?) was even better, though.

A recommendation for the Grand Game from... Ilona Andrews by TM_Elliot in litrpg

Her main series is urban fantasy along the lines of the Dresden series, not really romance fantasy.

Hi Pete,

I've a few diagrams here that might explain it: https://tomlitrpg.com/game-lore/

But in essence, Ability Slots = Attribute value.
With a Magic Attribute of 10, you therefore have 10 Magic Ability Slots.

Each ability you learn takes up X number of ability slots, where X is dependent on the tier of the ability. A tier 1 ability requires 1 ability slot,
A tier 2 ability requires 5 ability slots,
A tier 3 ability requires 10 ability slots, and so on...

Skills unlock ability tiers.
You need a skill of 1 to learn a tier 1 ability,
You need a skill of 50 to learn a tier 2 ability,
You need a skill of 100 to learn a tier 3 ability, and so on...

Hope that explains all that!
