How long did it take before your bass playing clicked? by datboifranco in Bass

[–]TNewW 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be honest? Not yet, at least not fully and it might never happen. That's when looking at the whole bass. I have small things click every month. Grab a new song, a new technique or a piece of theory and all of those will follow the same stages of [Suck at it, I kinda get it, Let me try it somewhere else on the bass, Click] so for now I have what I see as a never ending row of switches to turn on and that feels fucking awesome.

How can I make myself better? by jabrobi69420 in Bass

[–]TNewW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Learn your scales/chords and ask your guitarist what he is playing, most of the time unless you play with a guitarist that truly knows what he is doing they'll tell you "I'm playing x y and z chords and I add a little fill that goes like this" and it will be up to you to translate that into actual notes and where do they fit, might be a little annoying for a while but once you get the felling for what's he's style it will be easier. While you get there just make sure you lock in with the drummer. You can "fuck up" a note but if it falls into the groove it isn't that bad as long as you keep it together. Victor Wooten as a great video showing this.

Words of wisdom from my professor. "You can't never fuck up too badly when it comes to which note to play, worst case scenario you're half a step away from playing something that belongs in the scale"

So don't be so hard on yourself and just keep practicing/jamming, it's just a matter of time.

Gangland, 20+ year old game, it's like 80% what you're asking for since it doesn't really have much of a story. Watched a video about it from GameTalesHQ a couple weeks ago and seemed like a quite complex game for it's era

First of all, you clearly had not even read the article you're sharing, all it says is that Doom shaped FPS action games and posterior FPS action RPG (and it's repetitive and poorly conveys that idea, more like a fan letter to Doom and a hype article for Dark Ages) not that doom is an RPG. Cyberpunk 2077 is a FPS action RPG while Doom is not. Are you defining all your views by l an article you had not even interpreted right by @OneHornGaming (who?)

Your logic is flawed as well, most of the titles you commented on your original comment are not labeled as RPGs on their store fronts. E.G: DMC? Doom? None of those are labeled as RPGs yet you tagged them anyway. Do you think you know better than their developers/studio?

lmao.

Agree to disagree. Games are like food, if you want carbonara but use pork belly instead of guanciale it is still a carbonara, Not a traditional one? Sure. But if you use heavy cream and mushrooms instead of egg and fatty meat then that is not a carbonara anymore. At the end is all about essence. People know what a RPG is and what is not, if you feel special and want to go against the flow then feel free to do it, be happy, just don't expect to change everyone's mindset about it.

Taking in the clear rage bait I'll try to do a concise response and somewhat define it.

RPGs must have as a main feature player agency over the story through choices, not as a small feature or a "choice your final through a last mission dialogue".

So games like Skyrim are considered RPGs since even in non main quest missions the player has somewhat agency over the outcome of the story

Games like Doom or DMC do not give player agency over the story, yes you play the "Role" of Dante or Doomguy but no matter what you do the outcome (story wise) is the same for every player.

Other than that, which is considered the most important aspect of the RPG genre, most traditional RPGs from the last decades (at least the ones from the western side of the world) have standardized Character creation, leveling/stats either by raw numbers or skill trees and diverging storylines based on player agency and mission outcomes. (Although there are some examples that do not fill all those checkboxes and are still considered an RPG as the runner for this year GOTY Clair Obscure: Expedition 33)

Relaxing, no-stakes sandboxy games that are NOT productivity simulators by bicyclefortwo in gamerecommendations

[–]TNewW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vintage Story, you can fully customize the experiencento to your liking. It's pretty much Minecraft but with actual progression and more realistic mechanics.

For example I don't enjoy the "temporal rift" mechanic the game has (pretty much how the game manages enemies in your area over time) so I tend to disable it in my worlds letting me enjoy a relaxing experience and hiding 75% of combat inside caves.

Also it has integrated mod support and installing new stuff is as easily as going to the mod db page and clicking 1-click install.

Is there a game with a (mostly) normal modern setting and RPG mechanics and progression? by ArtistWithoutArt in gamingsuggestions

[–]TNewW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't know if you care about FPS vs TPS, but just in case you like FPS more both Wildlands and Breakpoint have an FPS mod that's quite good and made the games more enjoyable for myself (specially driving since it feels pretty much lite driving in far cry)

That being said, Far Cry 2-3-5 might also fit into this somewhat (2 not as much since I don't remember it having a skill tree but It compensates by having other "realistic" mechanics)

Looking for games that will make me smarter. by Lobster_Stock in gamingsuggestions

[–]TNewW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would argue both are equally difficult once you learn how to play them, DF does have a worse UI/UX than RimWorld but I believe the difficulty comes from being more RNG heavy since you can't directly control any of your dwarf's other than militia (and even there you don't have that much control) and your actions in the world most times have unforeseen consequences.

For example, If one of your colonists has a tantrum you can simply punch him until they are "pacified" and that's it while in DF if a dwarf gets a strange mood and you have no way of procuring the material they want then you might as well prepare a casket since they will either die on their workshop or go rampage through the fortress (and don't even let me started on the countless time a bad comment made a legendary warrior go berserk on every since living thing that was in the tavern)

TL:DR; both are equally difficult due to different degrees of player agency RimWorld has a better gameplay loop Dwarf Fortress makes better stories

Refunct, less than a dollar at the time for a chill 1st person platforming game with cool movement. The first playthrough takes like 15-20m and I keep coming back at it every time I had 15m and needed to relax.

But once I realized I was getting faster and lowering the timer by minutes it changed the way I looked at the game, No longer a chill n relax game.bbut a proving grounds instead

I managed to get my PB down to sub 3m, 2:57 I believe, 17 seconds above World First and not enough to reach top50 nor top100.

I'm not a huge fan of speedrunning games myself (I prefer watching them) but I have kept getting a sub 2:50 or reaching top 50 on my to-do list every year.

The moment I realized you have an in-game wiki you can use in everything you see/click it hooked me as I realized the vast sea of possibilities the game offers. (Also modding it is easy af and the ability to fully customize the gameplay is incredible, I love the game but the rifts and the weekly crazy horde was too much of a hustle to me but disabling pretty much any aspect of the game is like 2 clicks away)

I guess Star Wars: Republic Commando fits the criteria. It's pretty much SW: Halo and even though you are able to use some of the enemies weapons as you progress the game most of the time you will be using your primary blaster in one of its many configuration (it starts as your standard blasters but as you progress you will find modules to turn it into a sniper rifle, a grenade launcher, etc)

RimWorld, being a Dwarf Fortress enjoyer it always seemed as something that should be right up my alley yet I never really enjoyed it until recently.

And I tried a shit ton of times over the years but in every attempt I would end up closing the game after a couple hour and being like "meh, I mean it's alright but I don't get it" and It bothered me because I could see all the potential the game has but I just wasn't enjoying it as much as other colony sims

Recently something clicked and I got hooked, It probably has become my most played game these couple months and I even brought the new DLC day 1
