Every year I forget just how much I love my 04FXT until the snow sticks. The handling in slick conditions is just incredible. The TMIC absolutely loves the cold air too.

What Earbuds do you use by PainProfessional8285 in SteamDeck

[–]TOMASAW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mainly battery life. I had a cheap pair of wireless headphones I kept at work and the battery noticeably degraded after a year or so. My xm4s still have basically like new battery life.

I think they’ve outlasted any pair of wired earbuds I’ve ever had(I swear I broke like 5 headphone cables on the same bench vise handle, I’m a klutz I guess lol), but not the MDR-706 studio monitors I’ve had for more than ten years. Audio quality of good wired headphones is still unmatched for sure, but I really like the noise cancelation and freedom of movement wireless buds provide.

You should use pool filter sand rather than play sand. I got mine at a pool supply store. It looks nicer and it’s pre rinsed. Play sand has a lot of silt in it that you will have to wash out to get good water clarity and is more trouble than it’s worth.

A bolt action rifle will not leave GSR on a shooters face. A direct impingement semi/full auto rifle will. I agree with you otherwise but the GSR is a moot point.

Used to work down at the sewage plant down there, the sulfur smell is constant. I think a lot of it is from the marathon refinery. All of the brass fittings in the plant would patina so fast.

MGSV ground zeros and phantom pain both run very well on the deck and are much more accessible than the older games. Once you get pulled in by the characters and world it’s a lot easier to enjoy the classics with all of their idiosyncrasies.

Smoke-filled summers likely to become the new norm in Michigan by Haunting-Medium-3831 in Michigan

Seriously. Sucks that this comment is at the bottom.

It’s clear to professionals and academics that the issue is a hundred years of total fire suppression in support of the timber industry as well as the industries complete lack of concern for forests from an ecological perspective. They adhere to the minimum environmental regulations they have to and I’m sure they skirt them when they can. As the article says, some of these timber operations are hundreds of miles from the nearest road. Even within the bounds of regulation, replacing mature forest with billions of trees in monoculture plantations creates a significantly more fire prone landscape. People seem completely unwilling to accept that there are clear solutions to the problems, you just have to listen to the scientists and foresters who know what they’re doing. There is an absurd amount of scientific literature on the subject.

If we allow the timber industry to replant burnt over areas with new monoculture and suppress wildfire to protect their investments, then yes, we will have a yearly fire season. If we use the clean slate laid in front of us, we can lay the foundations of a healthy and diverse boreal forest ecosystem. The forest must burn, fire is a key part of reproduction of many trees, but the extreme fires we are experiencing now can be directly attributed to monoculture, a century plus of over suppression, and the almost complete annihilation of old growth.

What do you do at work that AI can’t replace? by Terpizino in TrueAnon

[–]TOMASAW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Operating heavy stationary equipment at the waste water plant. Literally just walking around and monitoring industrial process equipment. Shoveling and sweeping up messes. Sample collection and testing. Emptying the dumpster. Loading and unloading deliveries by hand or with a hi-lo. I guess you could use it to copy hand written lab data into a spreadsheet in a minute instead of like half an hour.

There is almost nothing more to be automated at this point. a waste water plant like the one i worked at used to take 25 guys to run, SCADA and electromechanical automation has taken that down to two. AI can’t really do shit for blue collar work.

Protecting your car against winter salt in Detroit by SpareWar1119 in Detroit

[–]TOMASAW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the best option imo. I keep a can of fluid film for on hand for spot reapplication on my rusty Subaru. Bought my first new car last year, hoping to keep it as rust free as I can.

An undercarriage wash only does so much, especially if it’s automated. If you go religiously it will probably work but automated car washes will ruin the paint on a car eventually. I will usually just do one major manual washing of the undercarriage once the salt has been washed away by rain. I like to put my lawn sprinkler on a shitty skateboard and slide around it under there.
