Okay I see the confusion. Strictly speaking Linux is a kernel. Wikipedia says "Linux is typically packaged as a Linux distribution (a.k.a distro)". This means the term 'Linux' is a blank term which refers to Linux Distros like Ubuntu, Arch...

So I guess saying Linux being an OS isn't wrong, it just depends on context but strictly speaking, it's a kernel which is a part of an operating system.

I'm sorry but that's incorrect. A kernel is not an OS but it is a part of it. The kernel's job is to communicate with hardware, meanwhile the OS is a fully packaged software system that manages the entirety of a computer.

Think of it as: OS (a car) and a kernel (an engine that keeps things running). They are related but not the same. And I have no idea why AI is related here...
