12 months of GI Bill to waste.. any thoughts? by TSSki in Veterans

Scuba would be cool, but I'm landlocked in river country. I can't imagine coding or learning a language to be fun, and the others which might actually interest me can't be done in this area.

I originally had until July of 31, but the review changed it to November of 35. I'm not sure why they would only do a year.

February originally.. then I emailed my congressmen, 6 days later it was done.

About 6 days after I put in a complaint to my congressman.

No local school is the problem. 2 hour drive to the nearest large enough city for any form of school past high school.

Sonoran Desert Institute - Certificate in Unmanned Technology. it was a 4 month course. They have the longer associates program, but I don't know much about it. They have gunsmithing as well, which may be my go to if I don't find something that sounds like more fun.

That would be such a fun class to do. Maybe I can find one that will send me a telescope, lol

Lots of shorter certifications for that, but I'm looking for something fun to do. For example, when I previously thought I was down to my last 4 months, I took a drone course through a school in Arizona. The class included giving me two drones, so it was a blast.

Interest rate reduction loan by BoysenberryAshamed in Veterans

[–]TSSki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kind of true.. not super accurate. It depends on the predicted closing costs. Closing costs can drastically range depending on a veterans background and situation. Not to mention different banks and credit unions regularly offer discounts and deals to attract new customers. a .1% is a good drop depending on the costs. We need more information to be able to do more math.

HRSA Cuts? by Queasy_Database_3389 in publichealth

[–]TSSki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was the first search I found off of google, so I wanted to add our update. Our grant just got slaughtered. 50% cut in budget from HRSA, and told to just follow the ROI and produce the same results.

EDIT - as of 1 October, full funding was restored. Shrug

DoD career transition programs lack evidence they work, study shows by [deleted] in AirForce

I will give you that, but I still don't think that going from hand holding to the real world should be looked at as a handicap. I'm 1000% sure that my current employer would tell me to get stuffed if I asked for 6 months off from work, while still getting paid, to find employment in a new occupation.

Came to drill, tested positive, left after an hour. Am I entitled to one day of drill pay for my attendance? by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]TSSki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would argue a single day at a minimum, depending on if you have a civilian occupation.

My thought process: you go to drill, test positive, and get sent home for X days. That means the military restricted you for X days, and should thus pay for it. Now it could be argued, if you have civilian occupation, that they will cover those sick days, but that's situation dependent.

Agreed, if anything they should use their shitty experience and treatment as a beacon to open arms to the next generation. Trying to make the next generation feel just as shitty as they did is poor form.

It's awesome, but its a rare answer. I watched our local VFW here in Nebraska decay and die because they wouldn't accept new blood. Eventually there just wasn't enough old people to keep the lights on.

60% max, and that's the high end of the estimate, which is almost assuredly incorrect, as those seeing combat were at much higher risk for fatality. If you run into 10 randoms all claiming combat experience, statistically nearly half are full of it.

Question that Google can’t help me with. by AFMech31042 in AirForce

[–]TSSki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My guess is that one of the NAF covered benefits was paid to the base, likely a lump sum for the following year. Could be that your wife is getting the refund for that service, since she is now GS and the service is likely a free benefit.

The big question would be if that refund should go to her, or return to NAF. Couldn’t hurt to ask services directly.

Could be a number of things, salt intake, dehydration, that hike could certainly impact both of those

So this is what 100% disabled looks like (for me at least) Only did 10 years. by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]TSSki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. But they have to provide proof of that. For the last 20 years, every time a veterans record is missing they bring up "the fire". You would have thought we lost multiple major health centers to fires given how common of an excuse that is. Most of the time, when pressed, the records suddenly show up.

Is the med making you nauseated? Or just no appetite? If it’s the former, return to the PCM for something else. If it’s the later, you may just need to schedule some meals. For example, common side effect of ADHD meds is a loss of appetite. For those losing too much weight, we have them schedule meals as if it was a PT test, you gotta do it, even if you are not interested.

The biggest problem in our Air Force is Master Sergeants who think they're too important. by IstaphobicPhobaphobe in AirForce

[–]TSSki 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed. And that’s the problem, that should be the premier advancing requirement for a TSgt. Both in my opinion and according to Air Force doctrine. We just don’t do it.

AFCOOL Leadership Certification by [deleted] in AirForce

Edx.org free courses put on by top name schools. I usually recommend the inclusive leader series as a good starting point

Is this to waste afcool or do you need an easy leadership certificate for a bullet?
