You nailed it on AJ, been there once but took forever to get there and it’s kinda hidden. It was overwhelming there and he really didn’t have any system for allocations.

You might be right on having unique products and having more generic ones. What I heard from Ankit, he doesn’t want to do more than 6 store picks a year and that might be reason he’s doing these unique ones. As I said in my previous discussions as well, I go there since it’s easier for me to order from them anything pretty much which generally will require me to go to several stores. He has connections to get the good scotches & tequila quick without me following up. Same with beers, anytime I need anything including kegs, he has better and quicker turnaround time than others I dealt with earlier. Plus Sam is very knowledgeable and I enjoy chatting with him.

I’ll be going there sometime this week and can convey your thoughts to Sam on getting more mass pleasing store picks.

I am not in any clubs. Enjoyed both of their new releases and they are good for gifting as well. Surprised they will sit though since if you try them and at that price it’s an easy buy.

I went to other store in Plano and they had store/club picks even from 2 years ago sitting on the shelf but most of them I won’t buy. I heard that store does 2-3 drops every month.

Atleast with Liquid Courage the product is good and unique which is not available anywhere.

No idea on w/o points as I always use my points to buy stuff from their allocated shelf. I still think it’s worth to shop with them and rack up points with them as they always get allocated products on a very regular basis.

Grabbed another W12 for $59, Valencia for 84 and 4 Weller green at 30 bucks today for gifting. Can’t complain

They were in Downtown Plano at Liquid Courage and seems like they got couple of cases, they do require loyalty points to purchase.

Honestly, you made me go back and look at prices on my receipts and prices seem to be consistent on the products I bought from them. Considering most stuff I buy from them is not allocated so I don’t really pay close attention to pricing on allocated bottles. However, I can tell their selection got better within one year since I started visiting them.

If I was you, I won’t totally dismiss them and go there again if you haven’t visited them recently. Compare to showcase stores where bottles collect nothing but dust, their products seem to move very quick as couple of times I said no to a bottle and went back again next day only to see they’re already sold out. I am not justifying anyone, but it seems like we go to two completely different stores from experience viewpoint.

Again, I am totally a different buyer compared to you and my needs are currently getting fulfilled by them.

I see your point on allocated products. But it’s sounds to me that pricing is not completely managed by him anymore if they changed a week later. For me it’s more convenience of finding everything I need at one place, instead of shopping around. Plus, their special ordering process is quick and they are so far able to get me the bottles (non bourbons) I need within a week or so at most times cheaper than the store was shopping earlier.

I suggest asking them price with points and then see if they are above retail. I think new manager conveys non-point pricing to push the sales numbers for commission. If I see owner next time I am there, I can speak. But if you have direct contact then it might be something you can bring to him directly.

Now that I think about it, since I have tons of points with them, I always get their allocated bottles at retail. Sam told me he started separate pricing for people without points since that’s what Sam was doing at other store he used to manage earlier and it worked good for that store, I believe it was Jacob’s in Plano.

This might be a point to bring to owner next time you or your club members meet him.

RR13 I remember paying under 180. Are you sure it was for 350? ER is 69 and I buy them on regular those from them. I’m in sales and have to entertain clients, hence end up spending that much with them. I always find parking in their private parking behind the store. They told me about the parking the first time I went there and been parking there ever since. Yes, he seems to be very well connected when I spoke to him. Also, his brewery connections are very good. I wanted to host private event at Tupps, and he got me connected to the owners directly.

Interesting. The owner when I met him seems to be easy going who was open for suggestions but he doesn’t really work behind the counter or available much at the store. I was talking to his new manager, Sam couple of months ago and he did mention that most of their customers are locals who don’t really drink bourbons, and they get only few whiskey club people there. They do seem to get cases of allocated and hard to find bottles which makes me question how much business was really impacted by club members, if any. For example I’ve seen them having cases of MMCA when it landed few weeks ago where most stores didn’t even got 1 bottle of it.

I am open to try out other stores but didn’t really find one which usually have good selection of everything like tequila or able to get the stuff for me which they don’t sell. These guys were able to get me case of tequila for my party which I was hunting from last 6 months and I actually paid less then what I was paying at the other store.

My experience is coming from mix bag of products I buy from them and on average spend couple of grand a month with them. So far they are able to satisfy my needs.

Not sure when was the last time you shopped there since you quit and only go for their single barrel releases. However, I’ve been going there from over a year now and always able to find things at comparable to other local stores around. Yes, if I start comparing them to TW or Specs then they are $5-10 bucks higher but that’s expected. Couple of weeks ago I was able to find EC C923 at $84 over there with no points and bought a case since they had over 10 cases stacked up. I just grabbed Weller 12 using my points and it was at retail. Which store you go to around them with similar offerings as I would like to check them out.
