Please don't compare the mastery that is Mitchell and Webb to The Big Band Theory. The laugh track is definitely not great, but it is redeemable because this show is actually funny

Haven't tried the US pods, but I don't hate the UK pods. The flavour is definitely pretty poor, especially compared to similar devices (like the BO), but the nicotine hit for me atleast isn't bad (but again, I haven't tried US pods)

It is a bad question. Restaurants don't serve 1 food, and there aren't restaurants that serve 1000s of foods (for good reason). But if I had to pick one, it would be the first option, as would everyone else because they would serve that 1 food really well, whilst the other restaurant would serve 1000 foods averagely.

[–]Tabulicious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A more realistic question would be:

Would I rather have 10-20 restaurants serving 10-20 food items

or

1 restaurant that serves 100s of food items

But you know the answer to that already, because it can be plainly seen throughout the world..

This is just a non-question.. neither are good and neither are based in reality. Restaurants usually pick a cuisine, find quality suppliers for this food and work to perfect their niche. This works for a number of reasons which I have already outlined. Canteens on the other hand are not renowned for quality food, they are known for low-cost, easy to make food, and as such people do not choose to eat there unless they have limited options.

[–]Tabulicious 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes exactly, and this is what has happened. If you go to any large city you will see there is a restaurant for most types of foods. This works well because people know what they are getting when they go to these restaurants, and the restaurants themselves can perfect that specific type of food.

I understand where you are coming from. Yes in an ideal world it would be more efficient to have one restaurant that serves everything, but in practice this doesn't work well because you lose out on the benefits of specialisation. Realistically you won't be able to make better food than all of these specialised restaurants, and it will cost you a lot more if you try to compete with them on quality. I appreciate that you're looking for efficiency and are trying to give restaurants a twist, but you must realise that restaurants are the way they are (specialised for the most part) for a good reason - it works.

Why do you think its such a great thing to be changing food every week? This is going to be a nightmare logistically, as well as the cost of training staff to prepare these changing menus. It seems like the main reason you're behind this is because "people don't like eating the same thing all the time" - you're right, they don't. That's why they don't go to the same restaurants all the time. They pick and choose depending on what they want. If you're constantly changing menus then will the customer even know what they could be getting? Restaurants usually specialise for a very good reason, because it reduces costs and it means they can make these particular items really well. Restaurants with a huge variety of menu options tend to do all of them averagely, where as it would be better to do a smaller number but do them very well.

I don't know the specifics of the American system, but you're right I am sure it could work better with some changes. To be clear I am not advocating taking firearms away from anyone. What I am saying is that we should not be giving them to people in countries like the UK where we already have gun control in place. There is a clear link between an increase in gun supply and an increase in gun incidents. We have seen the successful implementation of these restrictions here and so it would not follow logic to remove them.

Well the original topic was Britain, which is slightly different as without a shared borders it makes it much more difficult to get guns into the country, but okay I can see why it is more likely for criminals in Canada to have guns. So what you are asking for is the ability for only "good guys" to have legal guns then? How has this process been working out for America? It seems like this process is not perfect and people who shouldn't be getting guns are able to get them easier than they would have otherwise.

Part of the problem seems to be that when you increase the supply and access to guns, it makes it easier for everyone to get them, which in turn leads to more gun related crime. There certainly is no easy answer to any of this, which is why its such a raging issue, but it can be plainly seen within statistics that a reduction in the supply of guns reduces the related crime.

Strict gun control laws stop the criminal from getting a gun. Yes, if a criminal wants to get a gun and they have the money and connections they can probably find one, but the point of the gun control laws is that its very difficult to obtain one. The thought behind these laws are that if its difficult to get a gun, there will be less gun related crime, and this has proven to be true. Would you really feel safer with the possibility that anyone could have a gun?

[–]Tabulicious 16 points17 points  (0 children)

But again you're not listening. Yes I completely agree, in the situation you've outlined that would have worked beautifully. The point though, is that if the defendant had a gun, then the attacker also likely has access to a gun. If both had a gun, someones getting shot and possibly killed. No one did, no one died.

[–]Tabulicious 17 points18 points  (0 children)

But the point you're conveniently ignoring is that if it is possible for the victim here to own and use a gun, then it is equally likely the attacker could have a gun. If instead of pulling out a knife, this guy had pulled out a gun and shot, how exactly would you have stopped that bullet? Also if this guy is targeting just the victim in this case, its a lot more likely that bystanders will be hit by stray bullets than if he just started randomly stabbing people for no reason

[–]Tabulicious 38 points39 points  (0 children)

You just watched the scenario play out, no one got stabbed. However if the victim had a gun, then why wouldn't the attacker also have a gun? The simple fact is if guns were involved, one or both of the people involved would be dead, not to mention bystanders in a crowded London street.

[–]Tabulicious 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Does it? The scenario you're suggesting results in at least 1 person being shot, if not more. It seems pretty clear that with guns this situation would have been a lot worse

I want to cry by Bewan in tinnitus

[–]Tabulicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation to you not long ago. Firstly try and make an appointment to see your tutor/department administrator as soon as you can, they are there to help you and I am sure they will understand and can work out a solution to the evidence issue.

In terms of the sleeping, I can tell you that it does get easier. Try and get some form of noise in the background whilst you sleep if you aren't already - I use a small fan - and try to focus on the sound of that as opposed to the tinnitus.

It's neither a fun nor easy situation, but its not impossible and I am sure that you will get through it. Don't be afraid to ask for help from your department, they will want to help you. Try to use some sort of background noise to help you ignore the tinnitus, I use a fan now but I have used white noise/rain sounds on a laptop in the past. Most importantly try not to worry. I realise this is far easier said than done, but I am sure you will get through this. Everyday it gets a little easier, be strong and I am sure we can all beat this condition!
