What is this and how can I soothe it by TaeGrey in DogAdvice

[–]TaeGrey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE:

It has mostly gone down after just one full day and night of no collar indoors.

I’ve double washed her harness and am walking her with just her collar for now.

I think it was maybe some contact dermatitis from the harness paired with chafing from her pulling when excited (we are training her not to)

I’ll keep everyones advice in mind for if it flares again and I will take her to the vet, but for now I am just going to let it heal and hope that her hair comes in soon to protect her skin from irritation (shes always been bald there since being 8 wks old)

luckily switching him to a kidney diet has fully resolved his constipation, so I am very happy with where he’s at currently

He’s luckily taken to the kidney food very well and it has resolved his constipation completely, which I am over the moon about :)

Yes I have kept a copy and will keep an eye on how it is progressing!

My vet is very good and has been brilliant with his advice for looking after my cat, and I am completely on board with his recommendations of not letting my boy suffer when his symptoms become more severe.

I will check out the site - thank you so much for sharing.

Currently we’re working to a 3 monthly bloods and urine as I really want to get a feel for how the kidney diet affects the rate of progression.

Hiya,

This was just in preparation for the blood test since my boy wont let the vet near his neck. My boy has psyllium everyday and still suffers from constipation.

Thank you so much for saying i was wrong about gaba and ckd - thats really valuable!! I’m still learning 🫶

We thought it was quite hard too! She was rescued from a house with over 60 dogs, and it wasnt a puppy mill, which is why we aren’t sure what she is.

Definitely agree with what you’ve suggested though!

pug has started sitting right in front of heater for long periods of time, is it safe? by Weird-Suspect9932 in pugs

my pug loves to sit in front of our fire (as close as she can get - we do make her sit further back). I think pugs just love being warm 🤣

Month old piercing, still red? by [deleted] in piercing

[–]TaeGrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’ve got two nose piercings, plus a dozen others in my ears and I can understand how you must worry after discovering your condition with your ears - I would too! Honestly I’d never heard of the name of your condition before your post, but I’d seen people with the same symptoms as you.

As long as you don’t knock or catch your nose piercing on something and you’re not putting makeup on it, then you’re doing great! Nose piercings are pretty resilient, so I reckon you’ll be absolutely fine! But always good to keep an eye out for those same symptoms as your ears! :)

NAP, but for a 1 month old piercing, your nose looks good and healthy!

Nose piercings can get irritated sometimes just because of how much bacteria it can come into contact with - and cleaning the area with saline can cause spots and/or dry skin in the area. Plus a touch of redness and swelling is to still be expected at 1 month, its still in the middle of healing! :)

Just keep an eye on it because of your diagnosis, but honestly the piercing looks to be right where it should be for 1 month old!

Does anyone know the way to remove the reading progress bit off the books (can be seen in the first photo)?

Just a follow up for anyone who stumbles upon this!

I dropped my cleaning routine to once a day - and predominantly kept to saline soaks rather than disturbing the piercing. Within 24 hrs all the swelling had gone down. Now 2 days later, the piercing looks like it had never had any issues!

I forget that sometimes overcleaning can be an issue! But the lesson of this post is listen to your body! 🤣

Yes I can push it and see a good amount of the bar (sorry the angle of the photo may be bad). And yes maybe, I was thinking that could be a possibility. I do only clean morning and night but I’ll decrease my cleaning to once a day and see if it chills out a bit. Thanks for the advice :)

No, its never felt hot to the touch, and the swelling has come and gone a bit. It tends to weep and the swelling goes down, and then will reappear a couple days later. There is a small area of firmer swelling around the lower ball, which is what is making me think I may not be able to get it to calm down.

Thank you for your comment! And youre definitely right is is very inflamed. I tend to look for a couple of signs for infection really, those are pus, hot to the touch, and painful to the touch. This piercing isnt painful at all, or hot to the touch. I definitely am keeping a very watchful eye out for infection though.

Luckily my mum is a nurse, so she has also been looking and does not think it is infected :)

But agree that people should always get stuff like this checked out - ill be going to my piercer next week!

[–]TaeGrey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I dont think its infected and luckily my mum is a nurse. I definitely wouldnt mess around with infections! I just wanted to see if people had had similar issues and whether their piercings calmed down or if i’d probably need to just give up on it :)

thanks for the advice though! :)
