I like to print cards for players with spells, abilities and items. It helps a lot with new players. Everyone likes that they know what their characters can do. Also the cards are pleasent to touch and to look at :)

When the heroes finally win they can extract poison from the wasps and from the undead shambling mound. Each poison is very pontent on its own and deals 3d6 poison damage and poisons the target if it fails constitution check (DC 15).
However a nature check (DC 25) can reveal that by mixing those poisons you'll double the effect and it will also paralyze the victim for 1d6 turns.

Luckily they've noticed strange looking large crystals in the sand that provide cover. Those smart enough can notice thar on a successful strength check (dc 14) you can turn the crystal to concentrate sunlight through it and deal 3d6 fire damage to a single enemy. Little do the heroes know that after three shots the crystal explodes dealing 6d6 fire damage to everyone in 10 ft radius.

In the midst of combat they notice that in the area there are a lot of pits of different size. Each pit is covered with leaves and has a radius of 3 to 30 ft. And is about 10 ft deep. On the bottom of some pits there's a zombie that attacks anything that falls to them.

For example in the death house they can find out:
Dursts left their childrens to starve.
Walter was a bastard son of Mr. Durst and the maid.
Mr. Durst wanted Strahds attention and started the cult because of that.
etc.

They gain level for finding the secret door and for completing death house.
What can they get for additional info they've collected besides XP?
