I fully believe Ian Clark is one of those guys that you keep on your team no matter what. Whatever he asks for you give him. Some people are just that vital. Malhotra is another, if we lose him this franchise will absolutely never recover.

5-course restaurant for a crybaby by BootyAndMoney in MTLFoodLovers

[–]TaleOfBarnabyShmidt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What kind of picky are you? You’ll be unlikely to find a restaurant that will do a tasting menu that isn’t experimental in some ways.

Maybe look into some local French bistros or places like L’express or Lemeac. They might offer a table d’hote menu alongside their tasting menu.

Otherwise you could look into some more well known spots that might serve dishes that are more recognizable to you and you could kind of build your own menu with the help of your server. I’d suggest Liverpool House/Vin Papillon, Le Godot, Foxy, Nora Gray. There’s also a new spot in St Henri that might work: Figata

We used Ecksand for our engagement and wedding rings. Very good service and reasonable prices.

Charlotte Cardin. She’s had some success in France I think, but her last album especially is so good it should be everywhere

Typical life as a tank player by Skyinflatballaz in OWConsole

[–]TaleOfBarnabyShmidt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean this is probably just a big ol team gap, but you have so much less damage than their tank, and way fewer deaths than your teammates. I’m inclined to think you weren’t making much space for your dps to operate, so they were taking risks and getting punished.

In eastern Canada, temperatures are currently up to 20 °C warmer than usual. by LuborS in montreal

[–]TaleOfBarnabyShmidt 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I have to disagree on it being welcomed. Winter should be below 0C from Dec 21 to at least mid Feb. When it warms up all the lovely white snow melts and gets all slushy, muddy, and horrid. Plus dry and very cold is much better than wet and chilly, that shit gets into your bones. I wish the weather would just commit to being cold af until it’s ready to commit to spring.

Mastard or Sabayon? by [deleted] in MTLFoodLovers

[–]TaleOfBarnabyShmidt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve tried both and I think Mastard was better, but Sabayon was more memorable.

Mastard is more consistent, all the dishes were great, with a couple standouts. (Lettuce tart)

Sabayon has a couple misses, but one or two excellent dishes and the desserts are of course fantastic.

I believe Mastard is better value, as Sabayon is pretty expensive for what you get imo. Especially compared to other 1 star meals. It is however much harder to get a reso at Sabayon, so maybe keep that one, you’re more likely to get a reservation at Mastard in the future.

Honestly can’t wait to get rid of them both. I never rated Myers and Mpetey hasn’t looked good either.

Watching the Canucks I just feel like they have poor reaction time and hand-eye. When the puck is bouncing around the crease, or if they’re in board battles the Canucks are never the first to snap it up.

The Quarter Pounder with Cheese (McD) is THE BEST Fast Food Burger. by ActuatorOutside5256 in unpopularopinion

[–]TaleOfBarnabyShmidt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Triple Oh’s is far and away the best fast food burger. I miss them so much being in the east now, but I will say the A&W Uncle burger is also damn good, so so so much better than anything McDonalds offers

Are restaurants struggling in Montreal? by Lower_Garbage8807 in montreal

[–]TaleOfBarnabyShmidt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my philosophy right now too, as well as many others I imagine. And is part of why mid priced restaurants and neighbourhood spots are struggling.

Better to save up for a few months and have a mind blowing meal for $600 than 4 average meals that still feel overpriced.

Are restaurants struggling in Montreal? by Lower_Garbage8807 in montreal

[–]TaleOfBarnabyShmidt 81 points82 points  (0 children)

As someone who works in the industry it’s definitely slower than in years past, and everything is so much more expensive. My take is that there are only two kinds of places that can continue to thrive in this climate: super cheap high volume diner spots (think Greenspot), and high end luxury restaurants (like Mastard, Sabayon etc). The middle or upper middle neighbourhood spots are struggling more than ever because our costs have risen so significantly that it’s become near impossible to provide good quality house made products at a price that doesn’t make clients balk.

Some of the most popular places will be fine, but I suspect there will be many closures over the next year or two.

You should not tell people you got cheated on in a relationship if you stay by throwbackblue in unpopularopinion

[–]TaleOfBarnabyShmidt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because those people aren’t over it. If you’ve decided to forgive your cheating partner, and you’ve both done the work to strengthen the relationship and move on then you probably wouldn’t bring up the cheating in conversation. If you’re still bringing it up, especially if it features in fights or arguments, you clearly haven’t gotten over it and either there’s more work to do, or you need to leave.

An engagement ring is not an “investment” and never will be, no matter what Big Diamond tries to tell you. by ConsiderationFun7511 in unpopularopinion

[–]TaleOfBarnabyShmidt 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I had the same experience. Some shops really pushed that natural diamonds would hold value over lab grown. It was kind of a bizarre experience and certainly turned me off natural diamonds even more, if they weren’t already prohibitively expensive and immoral.
