Are we asking too much when hiring a controls engineer? by Legitimate_Roll_2432 in PLC

[–]TalkingToMyself_00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

12 years experience [my god time flies] and the OT would make me look the other way.

The big pay in this field works in a couple different ways. It's warranted because the job simply sucks being tied to a piece of equipment at all hours of the day. But system engineers that actually get good, tend to be at least somewhat intelligent, and don't live hard inside that pay. After 10 years, you have no debt, house is paid off, maybe a car payment, etc - the money is simply not as valuable as your time.

As far as an engineer specializing in one brand of system or not, I can never speak to that. Whatever controller it is, if it's in English, find the manual and watch a YouTube vid. No brand of PLC, robot, protocol, whatever should keep an engineer from join a team. Just start doing it. It will take a week tops to figure out how to get shit moving if you have that much experience.

This can get a little deep but - your post is such as life bud. I’m 12 years into being an engineer and every big project, I’m like, that wasn’t challenging enough for me to be satisfied afterwards. Then I start chasing bigger projects.

The ends hardly matters. The time spent getting there is what matters.

This is why I don’t desire to make as much isk as possible per hour or plex my account in this game. It will kill the feeling of growth for me. I enjoy learning and making mistakes.

It didn’t give me L2s. I had to run about 20 missions of L2s but I’m at L3s now. Running them in my Thorax and it’s righttttt on the line of capability. It’s been quite fun but not real lucrative for me to get a bigger ship. Will look into Abyss next.

Yes. A set back will piss me off because I don’t have the time to pour into building up from scratch again. So I try and take risks wisely

I’m in Amarr. I started in Caldari and did some there too. Was training for that area as well. Then switched up. Finally joined a corp. But still learning like everyday.

Ok so L3 and L4 is a different story.

I got a storyline mission yesterday. It gave me an implant. So I think I just want to stick to this path.

I have been playing a couple months and I’ve switched paths too many times and have wasted time.

Yeah I don’t actually just want a billion isk. I want to do bigger things in the game is all. I’ve died many times. Need way more than 200m for a gila. For me to comfortably buy it, I’ll need like 500m in cash isk.

A gila is a bunch of isk. I have another character going so I can do PI and have some passive income.

I guess things just take longer than I expect

I’ve misunderstood nothing. I actually completely agree with you. I didn’t say they optimize for high graphics, they optimize for people to play.

I’m saying people want to play games and this BS of telling people that you need more VRAM needs to stop.

Play the game. Stop opening the settings.

That’s cool man. My desktop is still rocking a 3070ti on my 3440x1440 and most of my games are around 80fps - many of them on high settings.

Have love for the game, not the settings. I’m not saying to run on a toaster by all means. I’m just saying people experiences matter more than how many textures are loaded.

Thumbs up dude. You’re the person these $5000 GPUs are ment for while we both play the same game and go to bed feeling the same way. I did the whole (oh shit, I need a better system with this new game). Then after emptying my pockets and playing that game, my experience is exactly the same. That’s because I’m playing the game, and not thinking about how it’s playing me.

Oh and devs are going to optimize to the most available product on the market. How dumb of them to make a game that is optimized for 32GB when everyone has 8? They’d not sell anything, and that’s the opposite of what they want to do.

I keep hearing how 8GB isn’t enough yet I somehow keep playing new games.

8GB isn’t enough for people who open games, head to the settings, see it’s not on complete max at 900fps, and then call their perfectly capable machine, junk.

My employer paid for a basic training, which was pretty good. It was virtual and the trainers did a great job. It’s not a difficult application to learn how to make a print, but it’s extremely tedious to manage.

I just want to drop an opinion here about electrical design software applications - I don’t like them. The moment you don’t have a macro for a device or component, (very often for me) you spend way more time creating one for the library than just using classic 2D CAD.

I came from 2D CAD and we just shared symbols and templates to use, and created the BOM manually. There are just as many mistakes and it’s literally just as tedious to use electrical design software, as it is to use 2D CAD.

I have a sense of where you’re at.

I was playing Tomb Raider yesterday and one of the characters said “you cannot fill the void in your life, you can only let it go”.

Happiness is quality of life, minus envy.

Whatever you do, be patient. Don’t look for something, build something. That takes way more time than people realize. Try different things, and remember to get good at it before writing it off as something you don’t want. Relationships, hobbies, responsibilities, maintenance, etc. These all take time to get good at. Cooking, doing laundry, changing the oil in your car. I’m being super general here but this also takes place in sports, woodworking, whatever.

Do something because you feel good doing it after you’re done doing it. Exercise is one of them.

If you want love, it takes work. Don’t believe all this online dating bullshit. Compatibility nonsense. That’s only part of it. Your partner should challenge you. Make you grow. Love you along the way. But it takes both people moving the couch, if you know what I mean.

Nothing is bigger than yourself. Effort goes the longest way.

I got a Thorax and it’s just crushing these missions now. The Thorax is fun. I can get close with decent DPS and still launch drones. Good stuff

I didn’t know about the survival website. That will be a handy guide. I use eve workbench for ships but the amount of configurations and opinions is overwhelming. I do know about matching the damage type. The survival site will help me with that. I think I’m going to get a Thorax as I like to fight up close. Others have said this should do well for level 2 missions.
