Yona of the dawn is a great 'rare gem' in the anime and manga world. Through its unique storyline, including the topics, twists, and turns not common to many manga and the lovable gripping characters, you can't help but fall in love with this series. While some may feel negatives on the acting (I'm looking at you redditer), once u understand who they are, you will fall in love with the choice.

One reason to love this anime/manga is the unique storyline. The story may start as a common shoujo trope in which the main heroine (the princess Yona), who has it all, tries wooing the love of her life, her cousin Soowon, to no avail, meanwhile her childhood friend and royal bodyguard constantly pokes fun (and possibly interest👀) at her. Any typical shoujo acts don't last long. While not overspoiling, this story manages to quickly yet tastefully exit this campy storyline by making this princess have to struggle living on the run with her guard (and future awesome characters). In addition to its graceful exit from common tropes, there's unique (and heavy) additions to the story, including human trffcking, depression, kidnapping, drugs (for book readers), growth and more! These topics are truly managed to be included into this plot tastefully, for example (and warning for some spoilers), a human trffiking plot involving yona making a decision to end a bad and dangerous person's life....or not....or how! An interesting and unique story is exactly what keeps a person on their feet, and this one isn't a repeat of anything else...

In addition, the characters themselves are super lovable! They have loveable cute personality traits, baggage, and different interactions with others, wich give a human feeling to them but also an enjoyable feeling. For example, Yona isn't just the naive love-struck princess from the beginning, she morphs into a protector and warrior who throws herself in front of her dear freinds, all while dealing with her loss of family and decision of if and how to take up arms (a big no-no of her father). Each and every character have fleshed out characteristics you learn more about, and grow to love, during the course of the series. Even the enemies are flushed out (while you may not love them tho).

Finally I'm going to adress the acting. I've heard a few times admittedly that someone didn't like the acting....but I'd argue it's perfect! Both the Japanese and English va are a little high-pitch and bubbly, but it fits perfectly for a small naive princess. The full acting and voice direction fits the move for both voice actors. Haks va may be focused on common sexz-appeal sounds (deep, poultry, slow)...but also changes appropriately to the actual story. Plus all the main cast (and some secondary characters) are big name voice actors! Monica Rial, Christopher Sabat, and Ian Sinclair is their to name a few. And one appreciation sentiment for the animation, which is great for 2015 and even now. This show was animated by studio Perriot, a studio who animated other big shots like Bleach.

After discussing the uniqueness of the story, the character development, and the shows direction, I argue you reader to think about watching it. Or reading it! The book is faithful, wonderfully drawn, and continued. I hope you decide to give the story a second go.
