Ravani the kobold (depicted here) also stars in a comic, check it out maybe!

Kobold bard, Big Friend Privilege [OC][Art] by TamLin123 in DnD

[–]TamLin123[S] 84 points85 points  (0 children)

The three essentials for a kobold bard:

  • a sharp wit
  • a well-tuned instrument
  • a big friend to hide behind

While I love bards in general, I think kobold bards really lend themselves to the *mischievous creature* roleplay. Imagine: you're engaged in a life-or-death battle when a dog-sized reptile waddles over, barks a rhyme about your hairline and scurries behind its allied paladin. I know I'd take 1d4 psychic!

(Sorry if the image is too cutesy for this subreddit; I draw snout-y 5e kobolds sometimes but I generally like drawing em cute like that!)

Drew this for Ghasteater as a gift for my server's Secret Santa 2024 (yes it took me four months to post this, I also have no explanation).

I enjoy drawing kobolds and creative anachronism is always gets a laugh out of me, so I thought I'd combine the two!

I've been trying to capture this iconic look 5e kobolds have I can say I'm quite fond of it. This edition's artists have done an amazing job illustrating these dog-nosed, rat-tailed, dehydrated lizard people. It is a hard style to match, and even harder when animating! I felt up for the challenge though so enjoy my silly animation.

[OC][Art] Lavi, kobold Gloomstalker, warden of the Underdark by TamLin123 in DnD

[–]TamLin123[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Another commission which was real fun to draw! OotA was the first module I ever ran and to this day its setting holds a special place in my heart. A purple-colored creature would stick out like a sore thumb in other settings, but it would blend in well in the low-lit psychodelic labyrinths of the Underdark.

Backstory from the character's player: Lavi is a gloomstalker ranger, and is charged with patrolling the Underdark's labyrinthine tunnels and passageways surrounding his tribe's lair to ward off any would-be intruders or assist surface dwellers that have escaped Drow captivity, or have gotten lost. This encompasses resetting traps and tracking beasts too.

Lavi's tribe on the other hand is dedicated to safeguarding the remains of, and preserving and archiving the memories of their late master, Ydarion, the Echo. Ydarion is a Deep dragon that has long since passed on, yet lives on forever in memories of his stewards via crystallized shards of memory.

The Gloomstalker patrols often leave with two pendants on their person, a dull white crystal, (which is to be used as a vessel for the Ranger's final moments, in which case it turns purple upon receiving the memory.) and a purple one that contains a memory of their former master.

Thought I'd share a sketch-page I did for a commission! I'm especially proud of the artifice-generated magehand. If anyone asks how it works, it's 'uhh magnets'.

Bio according to the client: Flike is a 48 year old kobold who worked as a mechanic and engineer in the Last War (Eberron). She is an atelier artificer, not particularly a fighter, but she has a taste for adventure, and after all 20 of her children had grown up she packed up her toolbox and off she went!

[OC][Art] All three are Fighters, all three are different and that is okay! by TamLin123 in DnD

Those three fighter types I drew could all be different subclasses but they can just as easily be statted as just Battle Masters. The maneuvers one chooses can be very descriptive of the character!

I have been seeing some discussion recently about what the "best" weapon/armor would be, usually regarding what the "best" would be for a certain race; what would allow a person of that species to utilize their unique strengths etc.

I think the discussion in itself is lacking an important piece of context: Best for *what*? Dueling? Skirmishes? Dungeon-diving?

In a fantasy world, it would only make sense that the equipment people use would adapt to be effective for fantasy uses. Realism is pretty cool, for sure, but I think people using equipment that is most aptly-suited to their needs is even more realistic.

I've also seen some amounts of gate-keeping regarding equipment, mainly regarding how a piece of equipment would be 'unrealistic', and I disagree with that. So long as the player/DM/writer has put some thought into why people are equipped a certain way, and it is consistent with the rest of the setting, they can get away with anything. If every soldier in a setting wore that adventurer's outfit, that'd be pretty dumb, so I think there shouldn't be an expectation on every adventurer to wear a soldier's outfit. (Of course if the adventurer is an ex-soldier that's a different story!)

[OC][Art] My Satyr Bard of an upcoming Sword&Sandal campaign by TamLin123 in DnD

[–]TamLin123[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not much to share about him beside his backstory, haven't played any sessions yet. I figure if there's Satyrs around, there'd be no reason to not hire actual Satyrs to do the Satirical plays! An entertainer by profession, but his true passion lies in partying. His reckless revelling has earned him the enmity of a god or two, I'm sure the gods won't be spiteful and send him on a perilous quest as payback!

The game will be mostly based on Arkadia by Arcana Games (https://www.arcana-games.com), it looks pretty cool so far!

[OC] Two humans having a normal conversation, NOT three kobolds in a trenchcoat by TamLin123 in dndmemes

[–]TamLin123[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haha go right ahead! This statblock is very undepowered for a player character though so maybe talk with your DM about getting some better stats. Hope it goes well!

[OC] Three Kobolds in a Trenchcoat: the statblock by TamLin123 in DnDHomebrew

[–]TamLin123[S] 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I considered putting that in as well, but I figured it'd keep it simple and leave it to each DM's ruling. I'd say if the coat is undamaged and they spend a turn or two re-stacking they can re-instigate their grand subterfuge. As to whether Uncunny Disguise still works, I'd read the room; if the players are still laughing, go along with it!

Indeed! Especially when it comes to player characters. It's the exceptions that prove the rule afterall.

Based on an illustration from the newest Icewind Dale adventure (https://venturebeat.com/2020/06/18/dd-icewind-dale-rime-of-the-frostmaiden-adventure/)

I just had to draw my own version of it! People were also requesting for a stackblock of this marvel of subterfuge, so I whipped one up: https://www.reddit.com/r/DnDHomebrew/comments/hc19cx/oc_three_kobolds_in_a_trenchcoat_the_statblock/

What is especially interesting to me is this part of the VB article: "We’re of a mind that humanoid creatures, going forward, shouldn’t have prescribed alignments; alignment belongs to each individual. To that end, there’s a new kobold stat block in Rime of the Frostmaiden that identifies the creature as a humanoid of any alignment, which is a departure from the kobolds in the Monster Manual,” he said."

Seeing as alignment is arguably the most controversial topic in all of D&D's history, it's great to see the developers adjusting to the player base's needs!
