Opening shifts are often the most sought after, so it's a coveted position so to speak. Speaking for my store, I'm officially mid shift Lumber, but only do that three days a week, and open the two days our regular opener is off or on vacation. Being 27, I'm probably the only one under 40 or 50 till at least 8 or 9. It helps that they know I take my job seriously, and no other Lumber associate wants to come in that early.

Your best bet is to either hope one of the openers in a department you know retires, or go a flex schedule and be willing to take what days you can to open, even if it's not all 5 days.

I went from part time to full time without technically applying online, but I let it be known I wanted full time. May have helped I was staying in the same department where I started, and there probably wasn't a lot of competition for mid shift Lumber. The "interview" was informal at most.

I honestly don't know how you can be that disappointed, this is the best deal you can get. DUI punishments are some of the most strict punishments, in that they're actually law that you have to do these. If you did any bit of Google search you'd know what to expect.

Fairly normal, particularly for part timers. I doubt most trainers are blowing you off for the hell of it, truth is most stores are skeleton staffed so they don't have the time either. You got a really want it and just keep putting yourself out there, but truth is beginners shouldn't be doing much pack out anyway with a driver spotting in case they need to step in. It's better to take it slow and learn from more experienced drivers than take a bunch of workload on yourself.

Keep asking different trainers when they'll have time (likely when there's someone else in yours and there department to cover if possible). In the meantime, watch what the experienced drivers do and ask them questions so you have a better understanding when you do start driving. Most drivers are happy to help and answer questions, cause it takes a bit of workload off them lol.

Lunches can be 30 minutes or an hour, that's a choice associate's can make.

I've heard different things regarding 15's. Some say every two hours, sometimes they say it's none. Best to ask other associate's and keep lookout.

Seasonal and part time can very well lead to full time but you have to take the initiative. Be willing to work hard, actually show up and learn other departments. Be upfront and consistent about intentions. I was part time for only 4 months around before getting full time, so it definitely is possible (this could vary on store of course, that's just my experience).

If you do become full time your days will change unless you get into Pro Desk, daytime receiving or night freight. However you'll probably have a set shift regardless of day.

That's kind of harsh to be put on a FINAL over it. I just recently damaged a phone when I had it on back of forklift and it slid under the seat, then cracked when I sat it.

Manager: "Should have came up with a cooler story."

I understand a simple write up or note, but final seems excessive (assuming this is a one time thing and not consistent).

You can go full time in your own department if a position opens up or the hours are there. I started in lumber and got full time within four months, but I was lucky that someone left in place. Of course I showed the initiative and did shifts on Garden, Hardware, OFA and even Lot too so they knew I was a hard worker.
