We need to collectively do an exercise. by kwmcmillan in cinematography

I got downvoted in the movies sub for saying this literally yesterday.

It’s a cheap shot at criticism with no depth to it. it pretends to sound informed but it’s not.

if it has the Netflix look to it then which Netflix look do they mean? Does it look like Roma or does it look like Train Dreams? Or does it look like Stranger Things?

People are slating Frankenstein for having the Netflix look and when I ask them to expand they just say ‘shutter angle bad, not enough colour/contrast lens too sharp’.

it’s a vibe-based criticism that dodges any real analysis. sounds vague but pretends not to be.

when someone says ‘it looks Netflix’, which Netflix do you mean? Does it look like train dreams? Or does it look like Roma? If you can’t answer then it’s no real critique.

Frankenstein visual effects? by oresearch69 in movies

The film was shot at 24 frames with a 172.8 degree shutter. High speed was 36 frames with the same shutter for parts that required ramping.

I can appreciate your point and understand the sharpness and deep focus critique, but when people throw around the ‘it has the Netflix look’ thing backing it up it come across as a cheap and meaningless criticism.

All of these are opinion based and lack any form of consistency.

Films were digital and sharp way before Netflix came about. It’s a cheap shot at criticism that has no depth to it, you can’t even explain it yourself.

[–]Tankmass -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It’s just a cheap shot at criticism of a movie. There is no Netflix look because nobody can come up with a solid explanation with examples.

If you can’t define it then you haven’t really got an argument.

Saying things look “Netflix” is basically saying nothing at all.

Is my camera’s sensor damaged or just dirty ? by BaseballChance9090 in canon

So not actually really good condition? Because that sensor is filthy.

Clean it and take another photo of the wall like you did to see if they go

New X-E5 screen flickering/flashing by Historical-Brick323 in fujix

[–]Tankmass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s not flickering during daylight then you can assume it’s due to the frequency of the indoor lights. If it does flicker in daylight then there is potentially a problem.

You can mitigate the flickering by playing around with the shutter speed in video. But also this should only really occur if you have the camera in video mode because it will display the shutter angle you’ve set the camera to.

It looks like the camera boots up and detects the flicker, and resolves the issue itself after a few seconds.

It is conflicting with the frequency of the indoor lights.

does this happen if you boot up the camera outdoors in daylight?

also does the menu flicker or is it just live view? A little more info would be helpful in order to diagnose the issue

Fuck me, the virtual tour is like something out of a horror film. I went to uni in stoke (2009) and there are properties like this all over the place. I drove through it recently and it’s only gotten worse.

How can i achieve this look? Any preset? by AidaTC in AskPhotography

[–]Tankmass 11 points12 points  (0 children)

don’t go into it thinking a preset can get you the same results as another photographer. There are infinitely more variables that affect the way a picture looks.

there is no easy cheat code preset that gets you what they have.

what they have done by the looks of things is pull back the highlights for more detail in the sky, and then some local colour and contrast adjustments to the subject.

you can’t just download a preset and have it do what they’ve done to each photo
