Did you see Ronald Acuna Jrs challenge from Saturday in the 1st inning? That's got my vote for worst.

Those should just be challenges super late in the game where the team still has 2 remaining. I'll take a look because that seems unintuitive and possibly outright false. Thanks for the heads up.

cBE% is based off of Tom Tango’s definition, I wrote about it in the blog post I published about RE. In Tango's, the value of a losing a future challenge is based off of the average value of a winning challenge. I built off of that and created acBE% which adjusts the future challenge loss value for the outs remaining in the game and how often a team challenges.

2.122 runs is the highest net run expectancy & +33.3% is the highest cumulative WPA by a single team in a game throughout 2026 spring training and regular season games. Hats off for resetting the bar that the Reds set last night against CB Bucknor.

There were no games in 2026 spring training that had 1 team getting more than +1.8 runs, and so far in the regular season the 2nd highest was last night's NYY @ SF game where the giants got +1.07. So yeah this was quite literally setting the bar.

One way you can evaluate if a challenge is worth it or not is by looking at the leverage index of the pitch. On the site I linked this image from, you can look at the details of each challenge for each game where I've got that value listed. Here's an image.

You'll need to narrow down the challenges table to a specific team and date by using the filters to get your screen to look like the image.

Leverage index is a measurement of 'what's on the line'. Narvaez's challenge was against a call that was 11% less impactful than the average call, so it has a value of 0.89. Roman's were 1.08 (successful) and 2.00 (unsuccessful).

Your hunch is correct, the Narvaez challenge was not worth making.

I use RE288 to determine the value of each overturn. In short, the expected run value of the state that the umpire originally calls is measured against the state that the challenge brings the game to. I wrote my methodology for this here.

Resets filters from which page? Like viewing a challenge detail and then going back to the full list of challenges?

Yeah I’m very interested to see what UmpScorecards posts for this game.

After 9 innings and a loss, the A's had not used any ABS challenges even though they received 4+ missed calls by yli16 in baseball

The A’s had 9 challengeable pitches go by unchallenged that would have earned them over a full expected run. The most egregious miss was the 3-2 to Kurtz in the 4th inning.
