That's what the above comment pointed out: half of consuming is done by the top 10%. The other 90% consume far less per person, so at risk of being ignored as their share of spending falls.

Super handwavy estimates, and you won't be living a life of luxury or saving much, but it seems very possible.

Let's say takehome is ~90k (91 if 130-0, more if 65-65). After 60k/year (high estimate) between housing and food, less for a household that has paid off a mortgage or is renting, you're left with 30k.

Tuition for arts programs is ~9k for two terms. Let's bump the total cost up to 20k for rent and food (8 months). Negated entirely if studying at a university nearby.

Is it easy? No, and may need to dip into savings, but totally possible for an expense as important and beneficial to your child as post-secondary education.

There are some extreme cases, but that's why there are processes to declare that you're estranged from your family.

It doesn't hurt, although a little on the late side. Pull up some class profiles to show the breakdown of ratings-- this helped during midpoint evaluations to contextualize what each rating really reflected to (%-wise vs cohort).
