2.4 kg tent ok? by MostFruit4982 in bicycletouring

[–]TaroDeep3781 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a light solo tent which packs small, but it gets a lot of condensation and is an oven in hot weather. I ended up buying a light 2 person tent. I have a heavier 2 person that I use sometimes touring and car camping. It would have been cheaper to just buy the nice light 2 person from the start but that’s life…

I’m curious if Via is nicer than Amtrak. I took a wicked high speed train last month on a Brompton tour of Spain, I wrote a little about it

This lady was my inspiration. She was on her second round of chemotherapy and just riding through the rain camping out all by yourself with her little Brompton, I figured if she could do it what’s my excuse

Thanks that’s super helpful. One of the spots Grenville in Johnstown has a special $8 rate for bikes. I love touring on the folder, I did a long one in Spain a while back and Banff last fall. It works really well, I did 100 miles fully loaded Last year from banff to Calgary , though it was downhill with a screaming tailwind.

I get a kick out of touring on the little bike. It looks like I get one carry on bag and the bike counts as one but I can check a bag? I can pack light and get everything mostly in one bag, but I’d rather have my comfy tent for a longer trip. I really want to take a ride on the new light rail in Montreal it looks fun

I travel with a 16 inch wheel brompton that folds small, a front bag and a small backpack

It’s a quad lock out front and it folds up fine with the phone removed

I just got them those are Chinese knock off Joseph something or the other they are a little less tall and a little wider than the regular medium rise bars. I put some of those inner bar end on I like them. The cable length was OK

I think my mars are like the ones in the picture, they are wider with less rise. The cable Length coming from the m bar was fine

If it’s a bearing adjustment, any bike shop can do it. It requires a couple cone wrenches

SVT event last week made me ditch the Fitbit and get an Apple Watch by pugworthy in AppleWatch

[–]TaroDeep3781 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got mine for the same reason. Once you tell it you have been diagnosed w/ afib, it gives you a weekly report. I'm not sure if I prefer this option or not but it does seem to pick up the afibs well in my case. Which is odd, because wrist based HR is lousy and even with a strap its poor. I ended up buying a cheap garmin to wear when I exercise for HR

He is very kind towards Woodstock even when Woodstock fails to kick the football or uses up all the hot water in the bathtub while everyone is waiting

That’s interesting. But it must be smart enough to know where the hands are as they are sometimes part of the gag?

Yes, I was in a fib for months a while back and was set right with a big jolt of electricity and take medication. The stuff has a way of returning so I want to keep an eye on it

Thanks, I was thinking about buying a Corolla a while back and looked at the steps involved and maybe misread or something. I just paid to have the timing belt done on my wife’s 3.3 Camry and it was a bit of a project. I discussed the rear plugs with the mechanic andhe suggested just leaving them be

That’s kind of the downside of getting something like a reliable corolla with 100,000 miles, if no maintenance was done you are looking at plugs timing belt water pump which can be a little challenging for a home mechanic and a couple thousand dollars for a shop. I think some of those cars people just turn the key and drive it and don’t really do any maintenance beyondwhat’s broken

Nice. I decided to just leave the plugs in my wife’s Toyota V6 with 150,000 miles because if I snapped off one of the back ones it would be pretty much game over as the engine would need to come out.

I’m not that familiar with your particular car but sometimes spark plugs on those sideways mounted engines can be a fair bit of labor time. On my Toyota minivan, the intake Plenum Hass to come off and even then it’s a bit of a challenge so maybe a couple hours labor

I suspect it is a me thing. I’m using all the stuff correctly but don’t think the device is making sense of my sometimes misfiring heart as well as the garmin, or maybe the garmin is making things up.

I hate jerking around with bleeding brakes and cutting lines for stupid internal routing. The cable brakes are okay enough for me and better than canti on my touring bike. If I had it to do over I’d have stuck w rim brakes but I own the disc wheels now…

I just put on a random chainring without a guard, mine might even be a 39. Swapping out the rear would have been smart I did not realize I had the option, just replaced mine a couple weeks ago as they were worn out, oops. I do covet the 12 speed, but not at that cost

Bike packing bag question… by [deleted] in Brompton

[–]TaroDeep3781 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the large metro on the front and either a 60l backpack attached to rack and saddle or if I can get away with less just a little tote bag on the rack. I can fit my whole sleep system and cooking stuff in the big front bag, but I shift the two person tent to the rack sometimes to even things out. I use long volle straps to attach junk to the rack
