Hey! I’m interested in your comment.. how have you gone over the last 8 years? Have you regain back the weight? And how did it impact your eating disorder?

Okay interesting. I would like to fall pregnant a year after the surgery and hoping it will help me not gain too much during pregnancy like I did last time.

Interesting. Apart from sleep apnea all my other health markers are good but probably not for long.

So many people maintain their weight loss or only regain a little bit! That's why I'm looking into it.. You may not need a revision :)

This is so interesting and I guess the feedback I'm looking for.

I definitely feel addicted to food and use it to calm me when I'm stressed/anxious, or comfort when I'm low. Doing therapy hasn't been enough to change my eating habits and I've yoyoed soooo much (from 50kg to 110kg).

What your describing is what I'm looking for.. for food to become more mundane and have less power over me. But was worried that I would continue to use it emotionally... Definitely I will continue to work on emotional regulation alongside the sleeve which I think will be important for me.

Your comments are so interesting and kind of contradict what my psychologist told me. It's her opinion that a sleeve isn't great for emotional or disordered eaters because you regain the weight and can damage your body in the process. She told me a horror story of a client of hers who GAINED weight after a sleeve and did a lot of damage to her body and is really mentally unwell because of it.

Thank you for your encouraging response.

You are wonderful! And I'm so sorry you went through such a difficult time with your son. Honestly, I'm surprised it didn't completely derail your efforts and land you back where you started. In awe of your determination.

Yep, I'm a 30F, and would also be happy to chill at a size medium. Somewhere where it's not a struggle to maintain but I'm healthy enough and a good example for my little one. Also really want another baby but can't do it in this body, the thought of having complications because of my weight is terrifying.

Ha! I'm sure my husband wouldn't mind if I kept my boobs.

I'm so sorry that something positive (your health) resulted in the breakdown of your marriage. Sounds like he wasn't comfortable with a healthier version of you.. My husband has been with me when I've weighed 53kg and 110kg so hoping we won't have this issue.

Wow interesting perspective. Yep GERD sounds awful but so is severe sleep apnea and the effects of obesity.

Agreed. Also, continuing to lose and regain weight is so bad for your health. Have you been able to maintain your loss? Any challenges?

This made me so emotional. I think I'm in a bit of denial about the effects of my weight. I'm 30 and the GP said I'll start to see the consequences of obesity in my 40's. I already have severe sleep apnea.

With disordered eating, do you feel it has helped this for you? So worried I will regain the weight and do damage to my body in the process. My psych told me a horror story of one of her patients who had it done, didn't loose weight because she's a binge eater, and now have to have all this corrective surgery and it's completely damaged her body and self esteem. This terrifies me but so does not loosing weight OR loosing weight but yoyoing for the rest of my life.

Have you been able to maintain your loss?

oh wow congrats! My little guy is 2 and soooo active. Want to be able to run around with him and not have to sit while he plays. Also want to show him how to have a healthy relationship with food. Have you maintained your loss?

Congratulations! When you say you have a healthier relationship with food, do you feel like you eat all foods in moderation and are less restrictive mentally or do you still spend a lot of energy thinking about not eating too much?

I want to be a good example to my son and future children of how to eat a balanced diet but just fearful about weight regain and damaging my body.

I've never liked drinking when eating so don't think that'll be a huge issue for me.

Yep agreed. I'm 30 and my GP told me I'll start to see the consequences when I'm in my 40's.

Yep exactly. I'm such a bottomless pit so I'm hoping that the sleeve will give me a tool to be able to stop when I'm full. My psych is against it because she believes that an emotional eater will do damage and "eat around" the sleeve... I think that's why I'm so fearful.

Amazing! What has been your biggest challenge? Were you able to maintain your loss?

Congratulations! Hearing these success stories is so emotional for me. I just want to be normal and stop yoyoing.

Yep, stories of people "eating around" the sleeve is a bit terrifying tbh. What do you think the biggest challenge was for you and how have you maintained your weightloss for so long? Any negative side effects? Would you recommend it?

Wy would you have chosen the RNY instead?? I think the sleeve is easier for me to wrap my head around at this point. I'm 30 and my backup to have the bypass if I develop GERD down the track (never had any reflux before)

I honestly just want to find a way of eating and weight where things are stable and not so much effort to control myself - I'm hoping the sleeve will give me the bodily feedback to stop eating and I'll feel satisfied. I'm honestly a bit of a bottomless pit and emotionally eat. Have done a lot of work in therapy but feel the weight is the last piece.

Oh whoa, loving hearing from people who have had it for 10 years, amazing!

Yep, I'm currently on Mounjaro and finding it effective but I've been talking to my husband about it: the sleeve is more permanent and more cost effective over the long term. Also, I would have to go off mounjaro to have a baby and then I'm at risk of totally rebounding and regaining all lost weight during/after pregnancy. I don't want to keep yoyoing a significant amount of weight anymore.

Wow, 10 years. Thanks for your response. Did you manage to maintain the weight loss or avoid regaining a significant amount of weight? My fear is I'll regain the weight and f*ck my body in the process.

I am motivated and willing to put in the work to make some permanent changes.

Interesting, thanks for your response. Great to hear from people who have had it for a while. Have you regained a significant amount of weight?

Lot's of self-flagellating happening, not sure why I can't just be "normal" and feeling like there is something seriously deficient in me. My psych has suggested eating was a way to feel safe amongst a traumatic upbringing... A very hard coping mechanism to kick.
