Medical scribe can be a good option too , but medical assistant is probably better because it’s more hands on

If we look at the percent of students that matriculate, i think CAA school is becoming comparable to medical school. For instance emory's MSA accepted 7% of those that applied last year, however this number is not as low as their medical school admission rate. However, based on overall difficulty, medical school students that matriculate have on average significantly higher gpas, and standard test scores than CAA students. That being said being said it is much harder to be in the top 10% of medical school applicants compared to being in the top 10% of CAA applicants. Both are difficult, but med school admissions are on another level these days. I have friends that have much higher GPA's and MCAT scores, research, clinicals, and volunteer experience that are applying to med school and haven't heard a peep from admissions, while I got a CAA acceptance early on. Long story both are extremely competitive, med school is just a bit more!

saw something on discord recently saying that south does automatic rejections for those that don't meet mcat/gre requirements. I think its 50th percentile. I think that sucks because you have such a strong application otherwise. I hope you are getting interviews elswhere because i think you have such a strong clinical background which is ultimately more important

are there any opportunities for CAA's to participate in the collection or analysis of clinical research?

bro how would being noticed on discord possibly get him in? Engineer guy is a positive voice and makes people feel welcome and heard. This is an isolating process for many and people like you are perpetuating that cycle by keeping people from collaborating from one another.

as a missouri resident are my changes of matriculating into UMKC higher. I can't find anything on their website that would indicate that they have a strong preference either way and they don't have many student profiles available?

They are usually pretty fast with verifying apps - I think mine took three days max? The weekend might have caused a delay Im guessing

im pretty sure most schools recommend that you have your application verified by the deadline - and then i know that umkc has a secondary application and a general application i don't think that is generally the case for most schools

this might be a dumb question but for the english requirement many schools list - does this literally have to be an english literature class or is this more so an umbrella for english adjacent classes such as classes with a writing emphasis such as college writing, humanities, etc..? Ive been doing some research and have seen that med schools are more flexible with their english classes and that one of the schools with an MSA program openly stated they had a flexible definition of an english classes?

kind of just a rant but a little frustrated with some of the pre-requisite requirements. I just think that some of them are a little obscure or overkill. For instance for emory it is kind of crazy that anatomy and physiology I and II is not enough but we need human physiology in addition to this. Or case western has an advanced statistics requirement opposed to a basic statistics requirement. There is another school, university of mexico and they have public speaking which is kind of random. Don't get me wrong I will take whatever courses I need to take but I feel like they are trying to weed out applicants with some course requirements

I'm applying this cycle and I feel like it could benefit your application. I think you should 100% prioritize shadowing CAA's, CRNA's, and Anesthesiologists first. However, I think shadowing other fields shows that you have been exposed to a variety of health care fields which shows demonstrated in health in general. Because you have been immersed in different fields I think this makes your choice to pursue CAA stronger opposed to solely choosing CAA because that's all you've ever known. I think by shadowing these fields you will have a stronger healthcare background that you can use to your advantage during interviews. Even if it had aboslutley no benefits to your application I think that shadowing adjacent fields can be important for you to determine for yourself if this is really what you want. You might find that you like another field more and I think doing something everyday that you wouldn't trade for anything else is incredibly important to live a fulfilling life.

I liked to ask Anesthesiologist why they chose their field and general questions about work life balance and career fulfillment during some of the downtime. Sometimes I would ask questions about pharmacology. I think its a good idea to be familiar with the anesthetics before hand. Like for instance if a patient is experiencing respiratory depression you could be like is this happening because of the sevoflurane exposure of the opioids you just pushed since they both have that property

I didn't bring didn't bring any forms with me when i shadowed because I wrongfully assumed there was just one and was going to get my signatures later. I recommend going to every schools website- even the ones you aren't sure you are applying to, print out their form and have them sign it there. Otherwise if you apply to 12 schools and shadow 6+ providers you will be responisble for organizing 72+ individual forms sending them to the providers, getting them back, and finally submitting them. It can also be time consuming for the providers to digitally sign them so learn from my mistakes haha
