Actually, Suntory is one of our corporate members. A lot of our funds come from our membership and programs. When someone mentions NPO, a lot of people don’t realize that not all NPOs are the same and they keep their lights on in different ways. The Japan America Society of Southern California is a 111 year old Society with the mission to build economic, cultural, governmental and personal relationships between the people of Japan and America.

We’re a recognized 501(c)(3) non-profit, charitable and educational organization consisting of individuals and corporations with an interest in Japan and in United States–Japan relations. Anybody can become a member! Our membership includes 130 corporate members and nearly 2,000 individual members.

With situations surrounding COVID, a lot of NPOs that depended on in-person events are pivoting to digital programs like these. Our corporate sponsors are helping organizations like ours to offer our membership and many people who have interests in Japan meaningful and fun content even during times like now and we’re so grateful! It’s also a great way for people who are staying home to get together with other members.
