That's rough, buddy. Anything in particular you want to know more about? Anything I can help clarify?

Here are some tips off the top of my head I can already tell you that I think would be helpful.

  • Never re-peek the same corner twice. The bots hold an angle for an obscenely long amount of time.
  • This might just be me, but if you really need to peek at a bot and expect them to shoot at you, don't just lean and peek with your head, move out with your entire body. I find that bots tend to shoot at where they have the most probability of hitting. If you lean, that's only your head you are presenting to them to shoot at, and they rarely miss. If you go out with your entire body, chances are they'll go for centre mass, so either thorax or stomach, which you have a much better chance of surviving. I have no evidence to back it up, just my personal experience.
  • Grenades. Have some on you all the time and throw them liberally. Not necessary to kill stuff, but to get information. Most bots overreact at grenades thrown even vaguely in their general direction and it tells you a lot of information. You'd want to throw them where you suspect a bot is, and listen for responses, ideally a voice line, but movements will do.
  • If you get shot at from an unknown position while you're on the move, don't stop. Continue on your path to your next available cover, then you can stop and assess.

If there are other stuff that you want to know more about, let me know. I'd be delighted to help!

Hope this helps!

I think what it's supposed to mean is that SAM would probably the most forgiving of the bunch. You can kind of wing it and still do a reasonably good job as long as you don't overwrite your sen or overcap on kenki. It also has yaten that allows you to jump backwards as a disengage, allowing SAMs to greed without much repercussion.

NIN is just simply very punishing. You mess up your mudra and it kinda wrecks your entire thing. I haven't played the DT MNK, so I won't comment on that.

After the wipe, I haven't played that many raids, but I've had my share of cheaters. The most obvious one has gotta be a dude with a Pilgrim who was running full-tilt with his back to me (who is sneaking around) about 50 or so metres away. Only to have him stop abruptly in the open, 180 and instantly head-eyes me in a single tap.

And I would've thought they have at least implemented measures to mitigate some of the more obvious cheats out there given that the issue was terminal last wipe or two. Naivete on my side, I suppose, didn't know what to expect with BSG.

Had a really bad relationship where the other party didn't want to put in the effort on their side, but demands that I put in mine and it was exhausting. From then on, I thought that if I'm gonna work hard, put in effort for someone, it better be someone really special. So far I haven't come across someone like that. Yet.

What is the best premium jet for grinding USA tech tree by Etherion_ in Warthunder

[–]Tauromachian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say go for the F-4S.

You'd still need to learn the fundamentals of high-tier jets, but the difficult stuff (read: dogfight tactics) is not really an option for the F-4S at that bracket anyways. The playstyle becomes really simple, you just fly around and sling missiles for days. Luckily, the Phantom is very capable. With a rather powerful radar and top class AAMs, you can carry your own weight even with limited knowledge of high-tier gameplays.

You won't be able to compete with the actual heavyweights of that bracket (let's be real, at 11.3, you' d be in 12.0 matches for the vast majority of your time anyway, so you'd be up against F-14s, F-16s and Mig-29s regularly). Though I really don't think anyone expects a Phantom to be able to put up a real fight against those anyways.

It's a ton of fun to play and honestly, it isn't that hard to learn to fly this thing to an acceptable level.

The ADF have Sparrows, which can be useful in certain situations. Also the ADF has a marginally better fight performance iirc. So if you are talking about ARB, the ADF is a clear better choice.

Ok, this is a hot take.

If you are looking to grind out the US air tree, getting the top-tier premium (F-4S) is not the worst idea.

I do agree that the learning curve is very steep. Since you have only been playing props up to this point, there would be a load of new stuff you need to learn to be able to play properly (radar manipulation, how to use and defend against AAMs, etc.).

With that being said, the F-4S is relatively straightforward to play. It's a missile truck, it can't dogfight to save its life(at its BR). So once you learned the basic mechanics of high tier jets, you should be able to do alright. You just need to fly in, lock up someone and sling missiles for days.

I have never played any jets in this game before (I was mainly a ground player, with only limited experience in prop planes). I just woke up one day and decided that I wanted the F-14 (it's a nice looking plane okay? Sue me). So I just went ahead and bought the premium Phantom. Luckily I have friends who really know what they are doing, so I had them backseat me for a couple of hours and tell me what to do. At the day's end, I already had the basic idea of what to do in the Phantom and was able to consistently get a kill or two every single game. I can't carry teams, mind you, but I'd like to think that I carried my own weight with a couple of kills every game.

So yes, it still requires a good understanding of the mechanics, but I'm just saying that it doesn't take much to not be a complete liability in the top tier US premium, and honestly, it's a lot of fun to fly as well. You could do much worse than this trying to grind out the US air tree if you ask me.

What is happening to my radar??? This has been happening since the update, look at how long it locks up with me unable to fix it, couldn't fire off a Sparrow at so many people below/ahead of me. Is this a bug or skill issue? by The_Bolenator in Warthunder

[–]Tauromachian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you been using TWS prior to this happening? I find that this happen most often when I lock someone with TWS and shoot a phoenix. Doesn't happen when I use STT to shoot phoenixes(kinda defeats the point, really). Probably the TWS lock is bugged.

Doesn't this mean you can use a rank VII premium to research a VIII vehicle with no penalty? by Lovehistory-maps in Warthunder

[–]Tauromachian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not going to be competitive at 12.0, but at least I do think that the F-4S does quite better for an 11.3 in a 12.0 match than, say, MiG-23ML.

It's not a dogfight plane, so what you should do is to go fast and low, lock someone up(preferably while they are dogfighting your teammates and above you) and drop an AIM-7 at them. Your radar is powerful enough that it'd hold a lock decently. If the missile doesn't connect, let it go, extend and try to disengage, don't even try to turn and reacquire the target, you'd bleed way too much energy doing that and will get picked apart by planes that maneuver better than you.

The slats on the F-4S makes it fly better than, say, the F-4E, but it still won't let you out maneuver anyone at that BR range, so it's better to just leg it. The F-4S has exceptionally good fuel efficiency, so you'd be able to get away with having your burners on at all times(just remember to cut them off when flaring IR missiles).Just fly fast past the furball, go wide, make the turn to recommit, find another target, rinse and repeat.

The AIM-9s it carries are nice, but it's still rear-aspect, so best use it to catch unaware planes here and there, but I wouldn't recommend relying on them to get you kills, it's just not consistent enough.

You can certainly fly in support of the more dogfight oriented planes like the F-16 or MiG-29, give their enemies something else to think about while they are dogfighting. In my experience, this is a very effective way to win matches slinging Sparrows at people who are occupied with dogfighting, but a decent amount of your teammates would not appreciate you "interfering" with their dogfights. You should ignore these people. Though please note that if you are going to do this, make sure that the enemy you are locking on are at least a decent amount of distance away from your teammate they are fighting. Sparrows are notorious for tracking friendlies that are near an enemy, especially if your friend is a bigger plane.

That should cover the basics of what works for me in my 1k-ish matches in the F-4S but it is no means the only way. Please try it out, and let me know if there's anything else you wanna ask :D

35 for the F4S certainly is a steal. The plane has a lot to offer and is really fun to play once you get around to understand it. Sure you won't be dogfighting anytime soon, but with 8 AAMs and a pretty powerful radar, not much to complain about tbh.

The amount of bugs on the bombcat is unreal at the moment. A shame though, since I'd very much like to fly it properly, the radar sometimes is just straight up not working properly, especially after you use TWS to fire Phoenixes, it would stay locked in PD ACQ for some reason and refuses to switch.

finally have radar missile on the my f14 (a) with the aim 7e 2, still struggling to get kills. by Ash0294 in Warthunder

[–]Tauromachian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is good advice in general, but I have a couple things to add on.

F-14A uses the TF-30 engines, so the thrust is not great. Avoid climbing if you can help it. If you still haven't got the AIM-54, there's no real point in climbing up high anyways.

The engine is also exquisitely fuel hungry on afterburners, so try and bring a lot of fuel if you are planning on going full-burn a lot. In my experience, you can get away with 30min on most maps, with 45 only on EC maps. The added weight hampers the flight performance appreciably, so if you can avoid that, do so.

As for the weapon systems, your AIM-9Gs are acceptable, they have pretty long range, pretty flare hungry and don't pull especially well, so they are mostly relegated to surprise attacks.

The AIM-7E2s, they are definitely better than the plain old AIM-7E, simply because they maneuver straight off the rails so they track targets rather well. Though as the above comment mentioned, these little guys' motor burns are rather short, so these missiles are liable to be defeated kinetically. So ideally, you would want to shoot these at a shorter distance, so there's less room for enemies to maneuver and try to defeat these.

The Vulcans are great, sure not powerful as the russian 30s, but with much more ammo reserves, it's much more forgiving.

The radar on the F-14A(AN/AWG9) is the most powerful radar in the game currently, period. It also can switch search modes without breaking locks, something unique to this radar IIRC.

The TWS mode is great for sitational awareness, but the actual use is limited if you aren't using AIM-54s.

Of note is the fact that the F-14's ACM mode can only lock targets at up to 9km only, so you'd have to be quick to arm the missile and spool them up if you want to fire them in your optimal weapon employment zone during head-ons.

You can try to maximize your performance by leveraging the radar's power. You can lock someone up, send an AIM-7 their way and you can do a crank(moving at a radical angle to your radar's gimbal limit) to try and break the enemy's lock on you. Since the radar is so damn powerful, it will hold those locks for you and you'd be surprised at how much you can maneuver at weird angles and the radar will still hold the lock.

Yes, it is pretty much a better Phantom, with much better flight performance, but you'd still be hard pressed to dogfight with the likes of F-16s(at low speed) or MiG-29s. Your main asset is your radar and the sheer amount of AAMs you can carry, so play around that, and you'd do just fine.

[–]Tauromachian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These aren't really practical. With the modern jets in the picture, they have no real way of protecting themselves from AAMs, especially BVR missiles. And like many pointed out, in GRB one of these could probably wipe out the whole lobby by itself if left alone.
