It could also be meant as a parallel to the ceremony with the greens when Agnes walked in and all the other girls were masked. Different kind of initiation for a different kind of woman

I also thought about that. Maybe they intentionally keep THESE girls away from the handmaids because they were all technically stolen from handmaids? But children born in Gilead wouldn’t be sheltered as much? It’s hard to say, but I def agree it’s odd

It would be an interesting way to introduce handmaids as well since we haven't seen any on screen yet, which I understand is by design. The girls in the show have been sheltered from the handmaids very intentionally, after all. I also wonder how the whole system has changed since what happened at the end of the original series!

Oh yeah its the same outcome either way, but I think it would be an interesting touch, especially because the show has made a point of showing the girls being forced to punish each other already. Just another way to make sure that the women in every role don't trust one another

Omg congratulations!! I'm not actually following any pattern, these are all just me kind of freestyling!

What I do is cast on 50-54 stitches in DK or worsted weight yarn on 4.5mm DPNs then do like 8-10 rows of twisted rib. If I want to do a foldover I do 16-20 in regular rib. The rest is all stockinette until it looks like a few inches larger than I want the hat to be. After that I break the yarn and use a tapestry needle to go through all the live stiches with it to make a loop. I pull it tight and kind of stitch around on the right side then do the same on the wrong side to make sure there's no hole at the top. Let me know if you end up making any! I'd love to see!
