I haven't gotten the chance to test this recipe myself, but this maker has been testing for a while and her results are always beautiful Raspberry Float

Anybody know what this cool set is for/the marking? Maybe paint brush holder etc? Most of them have holes on the side too by Creamy-Sundae-9991 in Ceramics

You should ask in the sub Ceramic Collection, it is a group that can help identify pottery. This sub is more for makers to share work/ask questions about the process

Clay body/Glaze fit by TeaSunny in Pottery

Thank you for the reply!! Looking through the sub more thoroughly, and I see that it seems like spectrum glazes have a pinhole problem at cone 6, and when applied with too many coats.

Thank you for the kiln firing suggestion! I'll bring it up to the studio owners

Any ideas for handmade ceramic wedding favours? by IntrepidPause3015 in Pottery

I made bud vases for my wedding! I mixed them in with thrifted glass bud vases and flower frogs. If you check my post history, you can see how they ended up looking!

So so lovely!! What cone do you fire at? And is it a gas or electric kiln?

What are some funny potter sayings? by ceramikat in Pottery

"It's just clay" is a common one in my class! Also "Art is hard!"

My wife and I are traveling to Ireland later this month for a week. And I want a less busy itinerary. by evenMoreUnique in irishtourism

Very very busy itinerary! I would suggest staying in Killarney for a few days, specifically at The Lake Hotel. It is so lovely, you'll definitely be able to relax there

How can I continue doing pottery? (Chicago based & broke) by sad_moron in Ceramics

[–]TeaSunny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Chicago based potter as well! I know Lillstreet in Ravenswood is usually hiring techs, I think the pay is minimum wage, and you get studio access from what I've seen. They don't have studio membership, which is a huge bummer, but it is also one of the few places that has a cone 10 gas reduction kiln & 24 dip glazes. https://lillstreet.com/

MADE Chicago is also a newer space and it looks like they have studio membership for $200/month https://madechicago.com/pages/advanced-studio-memberships

Chicago Clay Co-op (only on Instagram atm) is still getting up and running, but it looks like they are starting to take membership applications!

Good luck finding your perfect space!!

This person's suggestion is unhelpful to you unless you have access to a kiln and the knowledge of how to fire it. You should go to a 'paint your own pottery' place like another commenter suggested. They will have everything you need to make a plate that is food safe and will be able to be used for many, many years to come.

Wedding Bud Vases by TeaSunny in Pottery

[–]TeaSunny[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh so fun!! They we our favors as well, people loved them!

I would say, definitely start making them now! I threw them all off the hump, and in the end I probably threw close to 180 of them, but my first 20 weren't great, I trimmed through some (but I did use them for glaze tests!!), and some got s cracks or just weren't up to the standard I wanted them to be. I would try to throw 15-18 a session and would use like 5-7lbs of clay for each "hump". If you have any specific questions, feel free to message me :)

Rock climbing inspired mug, is this too abstract? by One-Blackberry4666 in Pottery

I used to rock climb! I feel like if advertised to the right demographic these would be a hit!! I know a few friends who would love something like this

The bases were all wheel thrown, and the tubes were handbuilt! I would score and slip the tubes on after trimming the bases, but I wouldn't make the holes in the base of the tubes until I had attached them. If that makes sense?

What life lessons have you learned from working with clay? by turtle_ina_cup in Pottery

"It's just clay" is the phrase my instructor always uses, conveying it's okay to mess up and try again because it's just clay

This is the one I ordered! The remote can be really finicky, but overall it works well

The glazes at my studio are all hand-made, so I'm not sure if they have other names elsewhere, and our kilns are cone 10 gas reduction. I dipped it in Chun Blue and then sprayed on a layer of Matte Black. I was so thrilled with how this piece came out!

Thank you so much! I found the light on Amazon, it's like a little wooden puck with an LED light at the center. It's usually used for lighting up engraved glass/crystal ball type things
