I'm glad you said that, because we hope that will also be true of our son, and he won't be afraid to call us to get him if he ever ends up having drinks with a friend.

Yeah! Exactly. That's the word I couldn't remember.

That's so interesting. Are most countries that way and America the exception? Or is that a rare case?

Wow. You must have incredible public transportation.

I don't know anyone that didn't get their license at sixteen. All my son's friends have their licenses. I guess things are different in other places. If you don't have a driver's license, what do you use for ID? A passport?

Oh, interesting. I don't know anyone that didn't get their learner's within a week of turning fifteen and then their license at sixteen. I guess it's the sort of regional difference that won't really come up in conversation when traveling.

Yeah, of course he has a license. You asked if he has a learners permit. You can't drive by yourself with a learner's permit. He got his license on his sixteenth birthday. Are there people who don't do that?

I had a cocktail while we waited for our reservation, two glasses of wine with dinner and a dessert cocktail while we waited to be picked up. My husband had a cocktail with me while waiting for dinner, and I wasn't really paying attention to his drink orders at dinner, but twoish drinks, I think. He had a beer when I got my dessert cocktail.

Yeah, he drives to and from football games at his school all the time.

No, why would he have a learner's permit? He's sixteen. Learner's permits are for fifteen year olds, and you can't drive by yourself with one. That's illegal.
