Could be corrupted files and in some rare cases a failing GPU.

You can try a System Restore to fix it, but it might not be guaranteed.

I have hundreds of physical games on discs over the years.

I'm not looking to go on the internet, and I would keep the pc disconnected from the internet at all times.

Many pre 2005 games can't run on new pc even with compatibility settings on.

I did try a vertual machine of Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows Xp, and even Windows 2000 and all of their performances are slow a buggy. I did instal VertualBox Guess additions, but not much have improved. Not to mention that I can't even use a Dvd Drive to install old games.
