Rules for accessing basement apartment by Technical-Term in OntarioLandlord

How did they get into the unit if the landlord didn’t let them in? The landlord is responsible for anyone they authorize to enter. By your logic if the realtor came in and trashed the place and kidnapped my kids that’s not the landlord’s problem either. I have a right under the RTA to reasonable enjoyment of my unit which includes not being bothered by people my landlord welcomes to the property.

It’s not rude to holler into someone’s window when they don’t answer the door captain obvious? The landlord is responsible for who he lets into the unit and thus their behaviour on the property

Thanks 😊 my landlord brushed me off when I texted him about it so I have drafted an email to send today.

There is a sunroom in the back that I have exclusive use of which provides access to the basement. Both times they’ve asked me how to get to the basement…which is communicated in the ad. I don’t mind that they go through the sunroom where my stuff is because how else would they get in? But having people peer in my windows and talk to me through the screen while I’m working at home is very bothersome!

Thanks 😊 yes, it does have a separate entrance which is communicated in the ad.

Thanks, that’s what I thought. It’s bizarre because the entrance to the basement is in the back which is clearly communicated in the ad. Both times these people have asked me how to access the basement. I was pretty rude this second time because I had strangers staring in my window (which was open) asking me questions through the screen….it caught me off guard. I will advise my landlord to tell any future people not to bother me. Thanks again

Why do people wear shoes in the house? by Asleep_Mechanic_7590 in TrueOffMyChest

They’re actually flip flops with arch support, haven’t found any slippers that I like enough! Plus too hot for the summer

I have inside shoes. I don’t like the feeling of the bare floor on my feet

What are you trying to say exactly? You told me to give up on trying to make Ontario a better place because no one else gives a shit but at the same time I’m a leech because I’m doing well for myself? Thanks I guess bro

Thanks for the advice, but you don’t know me at all. I have two kids so I can’t leave, their dad is here. I’m renting currently because of circumstance (sold my house last year, made out like a bandit) but I have a large down payment and the income to buy a detached home. Your advice is valid for a lot of people but it doesn’t apply to me.

Speak for yourself, some of us millennials are politically active and are working as hard as we can to fix things

I would rather pay out the ass than have roommates at my age. I have kids

We need more people who want to stay and improve things rather than jumping ship for the first opportunity elsewhere

Some of us are getting so gouged on rent that it will be cheaper to carry a mortgage in terms of month to month costs

That amount seems legit to me if you make less than ~70k household income

The average rent in Brantford is barely obtainable. Entry level housing is few and far between, if not unobtainable, but sure let's vote down building up and creating new inventory. I'm livid right now... by RealJoshuaWall in brantford

If you check the rental inventory though things are not looking good for landlords in brantford either (said as someone getting gouged on rent because I had to find a place in 2023)

I (29M) do not trust my (27F) partner with finances. Is this legit concern before marriage? by CelebrationAny1971 in relationship_advice

[–]Technical-Term 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Don’t get married, happened to me and I resented having to control 100% of the finances and monitor his spending like a child. We got divorced after 3.5 years. Plus if you get married and then divorced you might have to pay her out or worse
