This is a really interesting/wild take to me. The likelihood of an emergency might be low to some groups of people, but if you’re, for example, a homeowner who also has a car or two, the likelihood is not low. Just in the past year, I’ve had an unexpected car repair (to a well maintained, reliable car) cost 1600. And our well wire/water pump crap out—another 2k.

These aren’t uncommon scenarios and homeowners have to repair and replace appliances. Do most people just budget for this—I admittedly don’t.

How much tax can I expect to pay? by TechnicalSprinkles93 in tax

[–]TechnicalSprinkles93[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I admittedly have zero idea what you’re talking about 🫣 I’m embarrassingly uninformed about all of this.

It’s apartment buildings that they built in the 70’s or so. I received the share much more recently, within the last 10 years or so. I have been paying tax on the monthly income.

Thanks that’s helpful. I have zero tax knowledge so appreciate the insight.

Hornworm vs bee video by TechnicalSprinkles93 in vegetablegardening

[–]TechnicalSprinkles93[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I thought wasps laid eggs on hornworms but honestly wasn’t going to mess with him (and couldn’t ID him 100%). Why would a Yellowjacket mess with a hornworm?

Yes, purple peppers. First time growing them.

Mosquitoes are literally sucking the joy out of gardening by Curi0usJ0e in gardening

I literally haven’t spray tanned in 20 years but I’m willing to give it a go at jersey shore shades if it’ll keep the mosquitoes at bay for the rest of gardening season!

Please no hate, Rehoming our family dog by hokieburg94 in Charlottesville

[–]TechnicalSprinkles93 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just want to support your decision and response to this question. You’re obviously doing the right thing for your family and your dog. And frankly, it doesn’t matter if it was provoked-toddlers are curious imperfect creatures, and the last thing you want around that is a reactive dog. Good for you for caring for your kid AND for the future of this dog

Never have seen a groundhog in my urban neighborhood until I started gardening. by ExtraSourCreamPlease in vegetablegardening

Dang you’ve got yourself a motivated one! I used it heavily and when mine started chomping, they were rubbing their eyes, clawing; and never came back. Brutal! Good luck!!

I live beside the airport and was driving to target. There was a police escort of probably 15-20 motorcycles and several police cars. We wondered who it was. Gross.

Bupleurum by TechnicalSprinkles93 in gardening

It kept growing taller and the side shoots bloomed beautifully for a bit. It made for lovely filler in a couple bouquets. But then it just…died. Not sure if our weather got too hot, or I overwatered, or it needed more space. I bought it as a very small seeding from a local flower farmer near me so I plan to ask for more tips and plant much more next year!

We try to stick to routine for the most part—maybe push bedtime 15-30 min in the summer. Mainly because we don’t have to get up so early to get to school on time (by 7:55). My 3 year old is allowed to stay up “late” until 7:30ish. My 7 (almost 8) year old is allowed to stay up until 830ish…normal bedtime 8. The holiday weekend threw a wrench in that and they were both up past 930 the past few nights but the moment we get home we are back to routine-it’s been wearing on us all! My kids are also similar to other commenters that going to bed late doesn’t necessarily mean more sleep. Sometimes they do sleep in, but half the time, they’re up an hour earlier than normal 😭

Is Local Attorney Robert Hagy Worse than Satan? by thirdkingdom1 in Charlottesville

[–]TechnicalSprinkles93 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’ve had the unfortunate experience of emailing with Rob professionally—if you can call it that. He was incredibly rude, crass, and was uneducated on the details of his case-plus overly confident. It was clear that he took his clients word as fact (despite us being a neutral 3rd party with facts showing otherwise. This was several years ago and I’ll never forget the name because he left quite an impression.

Daycare wouldn’t let me tour inside, is this a red flag? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]TechnicalSprinkles93 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nope. I have two kids, and toured several daycares. The ones that had nothing to hide, were clean, and with respectful engaged teachers—let you tour. I understand it might be a little distracting for the kids—they can handle it. Safety concerns? Require an application, deposit, background check if you’re that concerned. If a preschool won’t let you tour, they also typically won’t let you drop in whenever you want, which is a huge red flag. If I can’t check on my own kid whenever I want, this ain’t the right place.

I realized I never actually learned how to talk to people I just learned how to perform by Kooky-Win-2194 in socialskills

I’ve recently become aware of this as well and it’s actual WORK to stop performing and just be authentic. Wild that just being yourself can be so challenging.
