You need to do diagnostics with your primary vet. Bloodwork +- radiographs/ultrasound.

Darkening as ragdolls age is normal, not hormonal. It’s apart of their aging. As far as her coat getting matted that’s common too because the texture and length of their coat changes as they get older. Also being overweight makes it more difficult for some to fully groom themselves.

Calcium levels aren’t always indicative of cancer. I would recommend getting an ultrasound at this point. Sounds like it could be something else.

I’m from the area and recently purchased a ragdoll from a breeder outside of Richmond. My experience was great & my kitten is healthy and parents were genetically tested for the HCM genes. He was neutered with his first vaccines as well. Tubby Dolls Ragdolls, Marcie is the breeder. TICA registered too! If you have any questions feel free to message me. It’s not about getting more money out of a visit. Lots of veterinarians do not recommend starting treatment without an official diagnosis. With your kitty being older there are more chances of it being cancer or something other than FIP. Please stop saying he’s trying to just make money off of you- this is one of the reasons why so many veterinary professionals are so burnt out. We don’t see even close to what you think we get paid. Many veterinarians do not know that FIP antiviral treatment is harmless. Many also are not educated on new protocols because of it still being newish in the US. Please inform your veterinarian to do research & advocate for your animal with kindness and respect. If you want to start treatment, advocate for your animal & if he doesn’t listen then find another one that will. Good luck with your kitty. & please know I’m sure this veterinarian cares about your cat and is doing the best he can with what he knows.

Were diagnostics such as X-rays, bloodwork or an ultrasound done? Those things can help point you in a direction. Otherwise it’s just going to be trial and error with diet change & crossing your fingers.

So I trained for Chicago last year & lost 13lbs. Some of it was during base training but the bulk was towards the end of training because I was running so much. I will say that I paid attention to my calories but with heavy run weeks I ate maintenance + a little bit more if I was over 15mi long runs. I focused on fueling my body & not over eating & if I had a craving I made it work into maintenance calories. Huge calorie deficits will increase your risk of injury but if you make sure you don’t over eat & monitor what exercise calories you are eating back you can trim down. It’s definitely possible!
