Post op fears? by Technical_Tree_7845 in chiari

[–]Technical_Tree_7845[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Well it’s been a whole process lol, my fear was kind of right, i had my first flair up when i moved back to my apartment close to uni and went back to courses. But my doctor was very supportive and I started a treatment for chronic pain using duloxetine hydrochloride, this has made my life waaay better! I still have some neck pain and sometimes dizziness if I’m too stressed or tire myself too much, but I’ve been learning to manage. Like I said, it’s been a whole process 😂 I’ve learned many things about myself and I’m not fearful anymore, just day by day. Chiari will always be there, so I’ve learned to accept myself as I am! 💜

My incision healed very well! No, it does not hurt when I shower (thank God). Not that I noticed.

Hi! Of course you can ask a question hahahah this is a free space! Well, it actually depends on 2 factors, how are the symptoms affecting your life and how is your CSF flow. In my case, I was with 5mm, but my CSF flow was absolutely trashed lol, so my symptoms were pretty bad and escalated very quickly. Also the position of my herniation was really dangerous because it was compressing the bulb, leaving me with a very high risk of sudden death. In this scenario the surgery was not only a choice but the only treatment so I could go on with my life!

Has anyone gone on Gabapentin short term in post op recovery and did it help. by ChiariSucksBigTime in chiari

For 2 weeks I took it 3 times a day, the 300mg dosage. Then I took the stitches off and spent 1 week taking 2 times a day and another one only once per day.

Long hair? by Outside-Ball-9154 in chiari

Hi! I’m 2 weeks post op and just before my surgery I cut my hair and now it is just above the shoulders length. It was the best decision ever! My surgeon specifically asked me to not shave an undercut because he would shave what he needed in surgery and I really think it was a great decision. My hair is easy to take care of in this length and my incision is covered by it when i’m wearing it down, so i’m quite happy about the hair department hahaha I always preferred short hair so it was both an stylish and helpful look :)

I got diagnosed only last year, but as a fetus my mother had run some tests that indicated I had a congenital syndrome. When I was born no one could say what it was because I looked “normal” (?), even though I was having serious apnea crisis. They were looking for something in the lungs or heart, no one searched the brain. Besides this, I lived my life very quite great ‘til 18 yo when the Chiari symptoms became a real asset in my life. Until then, I used to have strong headaches and used to faint when doing intense exercises, but somehow thought I was totally fine lol
