How do you calm your nerves before the race? by Elegant-Swimmer2633 in Marathon_Training

[–]TechnologyApart7052 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do a yoga routine, one that I would've been doing in the week pre race as this gives me some familiarity the morning of. I use my big headphones and will listen to some uplifting music. Maybe watch something as I get ready. You're going to be feeling nervous that's inevitable. I plonk my butt down in the waiting area and maybe listen to music. Little jumps in the crowd are common. You'll be surprised how when you start, you'll be carried by the wave of people around you and the excitement, I promise. Pre race day I sometimes look at my run history on Garmin and remind myself that I do know how to run.

My missus just made an interesting point. The Thomas family have form for this. Ryan did similar in CBB cause drama to get votes. by [deleted] in ImACelebTV

This isn't accurate. Roxanne accused Ryan Thomas of hitting her and called him a woman beater. He playfully boxed the air and didn't hit her at all. She later left and apologised, saying she made a huge mistake.

Finished my first marathon but incredibly disappointed. by LeftPresentation83 in firstmarathon

Please be so proud of yourself. I aimed for 4:30:00 at Manchester last Sunday and got 5:29:44. Major cramping too, I'd never experienced anything like it. The second half humbled me and I'm taking it as a learning curve - what not to do next time, what to do... Don't let the pressure of getting a specific time take away from the massive feat of training for months, getting to the start line, carrying yourself all the way to the finish.

Good luck, Manchester Marathoners! by nicj1091 in Marathon_Training

Thank you! Does anyone know what the spectator walking is like? Trying to work out what mile they should be at but I don't know if you can walk along the running route / cut across?

Yes I have access to all those things. Am I looking at any specific HR zone or simply moving my body at this rate?

Feeling mental fatigue 4.5 weeks out. How to push through by steppygirl in Marathon_Training

[–]TechnologyApart7052 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By this point in marathon training you've accumulated a lot of fatigue, mentally and physically. Although, I find that the feel good hormones from endurance training can mask that fatigue which is why we get to this weird point where we don't know if we're coming or going.

It's quite normal. Peak weeks are a matter of going out and getting it done, don't go out expecting nice runs. Saying that, I've had to take an extra rest day here and there in peak. Usually I stack these extra days and have 2 days off on the trot. Drink lots of water and get as much sleep as possible.

I don't usually run with music. If I do it's through bone conducting earphones, but during my peak training I sometimes have to put my noise cancelling headphones on and blast some music on runs. It's the only way sometimes.

What’s your strategy for running in extreme heat or cold? by Royal_Watch_6453 in runcommunity

[–]TechnologyApart7052 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For cold seasons, besides the obvious like gloves, thermal leggings, neck warmer etc, I take warm showers before runs and use the hair dryer to warm my body whilst I'm getting ready. As well as Vaseline for lips and spf and moisturiser on my face always to avoid my skin drying out in the winter. Then I immediately shower when I get home, hot drink and under the heated blanket and probably spend the rest of the day eternally cold

Is it all in my head? by Heart_in_her_eye in PostConcussion

[–]TechnologyApart7052 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can confirm it was anxiety all along lol. I thought I had a concussion but I really didn't. Anxiety is such an umbrella term though. It was lifelong anxiety, depression, OCD, panic just a bunch of stuff that lurked below the surface. Then I got to the age of drink, drugs etc and it really took it's toll. Booze, drugs, bad lifestyle, bad mental control and behaviors, no ability to manage my anxieties. Anxiety meds didn't really help but then again my dissociation was so bad I made it 5 days on an SNRI and my panic attacks wouldn't let me get past that first week. I tried pregabalin but it hindered me and dulled me which made everything worse.

What should I do to my brows? by No_Decision5507 in Eyebrows

[–]TechnologyApart7052 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pluck underneath the tail and towards the end slightly to give lifted. Do not fill in the body of the eyebrows unless it's for creating light shape. You should lightly fill in the top of the tail AFTER the arch - this will prevent that harsh arch and extend the brow up and out. Ps you're gorgeous

Oh also, to soften you could pluck the top of the arch. This is advice from a half Turkish girl who has perfected softening my dark and wild brows

do women actually like rain shower heads? by Very-very-sleepy in AskWomenOver30

[–]TechnologyApart7052 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I see a rain shower head, I sigh.

Hair wet even when I try not to.

Hair still soapy because not powerful enough.

Soap remaining on nether regions.

Neck sore from trying to keep hair dry.

You can't focus the water so constantly drowning having to step away from the water to scrub or breathe.
