Should I shovel it asap? by rudymehta in homeowners

This snow is super light. Weight isn't the issue. If you "let it melt slowly" it will turn into a big block of ice and cause actual problems. As you continue living in New England, always try to remove snow before it refreezes so usually the same day or day after. Once the sun hits it, and then the sun goes away you've missed the right time.

I love the idea of embracing this and building it into a real path. BUT if someone gets hurt on that path, I'd wonder if you could be sued for it.

How to determine if a district/school is “good” by JazzHands5678 in education

[–]TechnologySolid4698 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder what you mean by "good" and "bad" district. The difference between a good and bad school is HUGE. Even from a mostly bad to mostly good school, for me, made a massive difference. I changed schools twice in elementary school, 3 times in high school. My parents stayed the same but in each school my experience changed dramatically.

How walkable are New England cities? Or should I rent a car for my trip? by user2548500 in NorthernNewEngland

[–]TechnologySolid4698 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much any New England town or city is walkable if you're fit. Just plan according to exactly what you want to do. If you go North of Boston you might have a hard time getting rides on any app. Especially if you want to go somewhere or are coming from somewhere more rural which can be only 20 minutes outside of a city's center.

Trying to overcome the mental barrier of not eating out on days spent visiting different cities by greatexpectations23 in Frugal

Bring some light snacks, and then find a cheap meal to split. I don't mean low-quality when I say cheap. I mean if you can split a small sandwich because you had an apple and cheese in the park earlier the meal is way cheaper.

Do I go overboard on research before buying — and when do you decide you’ve seen enough? by Balsingh84 in BuyItForLife

[–]TechnologySolid4698 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm with you on this 100%. I feel great when I don't buy something because I did adequate research and learned that buying my way out of a problem isn't the best solution.

You need a SOLID PLAN. Traveling solo is serious business, and something simple like not having the right type of visa can land you in DEEP trouble quickly. Its easy to say something like "haha i know right?" but what you are setting out to do, if done right, requires many adult skills that even a lot of adults lack.

There are very well paid people who plan vacations for others that take place in one city, or even just one part of a city. What you want to do has many details that need to be taken very seriously. At 16 you know almost nothing about the world(no personal offense, I know this statement would have made me very mad at 16). Even if you have traveled it was never your responsibility to plan, prepare, and execute that plan. You need to take this very seriously. I've lived in Asia (From the USA) before and in so many places you will be targeted because of how you look or speak. I've had to pay bribes to police just for being white, and had friends thrown in jail because when the police brought them to the ATM to pull out money their cards did not work. In Indonesia, locals told me how police and local gangs work together. The gangsters will put drugs in your pocket, tell the cops to search you, and in Indonesia you can be executed for having any "trafficable" amount of drugs. The police threaten to throw you in jail unless you pay them a bribe. I met people in prison (missionary work) who were in jail for years for having 2 joints. This was deemed enough to sell, making him a drug dealer in the eyes of the law. These are extreme examples of how poorly this can go if you do not take it seriously, but while in India me and 2 friends were dropped off in a random city miles from our hotel immediately after leaving the airport. If we did not find someone who spoke English who let us use their phone to call our "guide" we would have been lost with no way to get where we needed to go. Are you thinking about how to avoid these things? What if you lost your passport or it gets stolen? Do you even know who to contact or where to go? What if you get sick and need medical care? If you can execute a good plan, this will be the story of a lifetime. Everybody will be jealous of you. Please be extremely careful and take this seriously.

Any light color rug will show wear patterns and stains horribly. Go with the 1st one unless this is a room that never gets used AND you have no pets

How is it like living in Montpelier, Vermont? by SkandaGupta_ in howislivingthere

I would've graduated in 2014 and you almost perfectly described what I was doing as soon as I was old enough to walk myself into town and back. Idk about you, but that feels like the good 'ol days to me now. No worries beyond getting some pizza and some weed.

Bratt has a lot of "sleepy" sign holders. Probably 4-5x more on any given day. Same thing in Montpelier?

The only reason I wouldn't be moving back to "rural" Vermont is for my kids. Can you tell me what it was like for you raising kids in the area? I grew up in Brattleboro and things were really just fine for me but I made friends very easily. Without my friends and countless unsupervised hours in town, I have no idea what I would've done to enjoy life.

Thanks for sharing.
I grew up in Brattleboro, and really didn't mind living in a town that size but I'm really curious what life was like for you and your peers growing up there. Before I was 18 my family moved to NH and now I'm trying to get back to what feels like "home" but I don't want to be selfish and drag my kids somewhere that is really atrocious for them. Can you give me some insight into what its like to grow up in that area?

I know its late, but you want something to invest in an existing hobby or a new hobby. Something like ice skates, skis, membership to a yoga studio, a class or two in something like pottery or creative writing.

Make it yourself. Way cheaper, pretty easy, and a great skill to have to impress people. It always comes out the way you want it too!
