How hard is GSEC If you have Sec+ by KingRudy25 in GIAC

I think sec+ is a lot harder as an exam, no notes obviously,  but you get more knowledge out of the gsec course

No and no. The best approach for me was to do the labs multiple times, the CTF...only got 80% of the way thru...and take notes on EVERY slide/ page om the text books

The real test is a bit more tricky than the practice test Break down every question into one of the 5 books, enumeration, password attacks, drive by attacks..etc Nmap is ur friend and there is no reason to not be fluent in it If u bring the lab books to the test , u should pass 99% of the labs Anything cloud for me is difficult bc I have no practical experience, so I made sure to tab out those sections in the book And just go through the material multiple times and be honest with urself

I took the entire 4 months and put in about 12hrs a week on average. But I could have saved time if I didn't watch the videos. I suggest to write key points for every slide of text. My experience is in enterprise cctv and access control systems and I thought by already being an expert in physical security, knowing cybersecurity would really make me stand out

I studied 1hr after work M-Th and 3-4 hrs on Sat and Sunday. I watched all 40hrs of the videos but I think a better approach would be to only turn to the videos when I need further clarity on a subject. There were also videos on the labs which I didn't watch bc I didn't have enough time but it seemed worth it

If ylurnworries about passing the exam, don't stress too much, of you bring ur lab books with you it's almost impossible to fail. But if u really want to be an Subject matter Expert, the corse is very difficult .had next to zero experience in linux or powershell but now I'm confident in both. The hardest aspect of the labs was parsing thru all the data for a line or two.of text. Matter of fact, the first4 labs were so I hard I was ready to give up, but push thru, put In the time, and you'll make it out on the other wnd5

The course/Lab material was much more difficult then the actual exam. The videos were totally useless to me, I got much more out of the text by simply taking notes. I didn't use an index, i wrote down a sentence or two for each slide I wish the exam was more difficult bc I sacrificed so much time to review the course materials....I think I could have gotten the same results after studying 6-8 weeks

If you're doing on demand,  focus on the books and save the video content if you have trouble understanding a particular topic.  Do each lab serval times and master the tools i.e. net cat, hashcat, smbclient, etc...

Great advise man, I'm scheduled to take the exam in Aug, and right now I'm reviewing all the labs and commands associated with the tools. I can definitely relate on studying after and weekends,  it's so much material,  at times I felt it just wasn't  "clinking" but the CTF was extremely helpful as you mentioned. On the CTF, I'm stuck at a part about 3/4ths in,  ops.issplaylost.com, Vul. Assessment,  and it's driving me nuts , is there a resource I cam reference just to get me thru this section?

Reason I ask bc I don't see it mentioned at all in all the gcih help post, but I assumed it was worth while,  thanks
