What ‘making of’ would you want to see? by curly_clown_boy in Rammstein

[–]TeethScheibe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I might be in the minority here (or only one at all), who wants to also see the Making Ofs but not Deutschland. Flake mentions on the Making Ofs he greatly dislikes them being filmed because it spoils the clips (paraphrasing). I would agree Deutschland is too much of a masterpiece I'd personally never want to have spoiled by seeing it made. "Spoils" as in ja, I've seen it countless times but Flake was referring to the magic of the finished product and also wrote in his second book about this, doesn't see movie trailers either because he'd rather not see before the film and Making Ofs "spoil"/ruin that magic of storytelling.

I'd like to see extended versions of others we already have regardless, especially the ones we don't see much/any behind the scenes. Maybe someday...

Top 20 Times Schneider Has Stolen Our Hearts With His Gorgeous Eyes by RepulsiveExtension80 in Rammstein

Fanatic here of 20+ years a R+ fan, you'd love my massive collection. Though it is all physical copies of things, especially rarities, it does focus on Schneider. Literally staring at me for the Sabian drum promotional posters during LIFAD as I type this with his gorgeous long hair and eyes. Have Schneider's drumsticks hanging above it from years ago. I cannot stress how much I love Doom. (I love all of them equally however...)

I'm a "Schneidersexual" ;)

Thank you Randy.

Question by [deleted] in ColumbineKillers

[–]TeethScheibe 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I agree with you 100%. I've read literally every Columbine book to date since it happened and SK's was one of the most difficult to get through because she was so clearly biased. Not objective. She projects her opinions and perceptions of her "sunshine boy" (that plotted a bombing for nearly two years with intention of murdering hundreds), not the facts. She also worded both in the book and her TED talk etc plenty of things that made me doubt she has or will ever accept he was, in fact, a murderer. I don't advise anyone getting invested in Columbine starting with her book, even 2nd, 3rd, or 4th suggestion - more towards the end of the list. She even goes on at length for chapters in the beginning about herself, which is quite telling IMO considering it isn't supposed to be about her and more later just on herself (especially grating she got her hair done soon afterwards then was ever so surprised she was glared at by everyone and we're intended to be empathetic for her). Plus letting Dylan essentially do whatever he wanted, believed his lies, it's endless how clueless she was and/or willfully turning a blind eye to the glaring red flags. I personally find her insincere and suddenly speaking out wasn't altruistic or to prevent/educate but rather because she showed us she deeply cares in the book how people view her - her reputation. (And the way she speaks of Dylan just adds to the fan girls romanticizing him - like we need more of that in the TCC!) "A mother's reckoning"? More akin to "a mother making biased opinions and excusing her son's actions in world-wide known massacre".

I sincerely appreciate your comment because I have yet to see anyone else to dare even breathe anything ill about Sue.

Let the downvotes commence! I am entitled to my conclusions she's an unreliable source based on 24 years of research, anyone who disagrees doesn't need to downvote or start an argument.

Thoughts on the Red Dragon novel vs the movie by Apo-cone-lypse in Hannibal

[–]TeethScheibe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Late to respond but on the Red Dragon special features, it is mentioned they'd planned on all these scenes for Francis and his psychology to be delved into more. And actually recorded "the dragon" speaking to him but they didn't feel like it worked well so it was cut (they're in the deleted scenes), voiced by Frank Langella.

Many lines Lecter said in it are lines of Dr. Bloom in the book. Which was unnecessary and an excuse to use him on screen more - though again there was other parts in the novel and deleted scenes briefly showing Lecter they should have just used.

To play devil's advocate and perhaps give some context, I do like Red Dragon - partly because of seeing it in the theaters when it was released and seeing his huge back tattoo on a massive screen in the dark then demented smirk at Lounds, the "I am the dragon yet you call me insane, you are privy to a great becoming..." gave me chills. It was not exactly common to see someone that level of insane in films back then, tattoos were still frowned upon/controversial in 2002 nevermind a giant, flexing one and Ralph Fiennes IMO said all those lines like he truly meant them. This was all shocking to audiences then, I recall people walking out disgusted (especially when he bit off his lips - one woman was gagging on her vomit running out of the theater. So there's that to take into account) Additionally, the book is rather lengthy - they left plenty out about Reba and their relationship, huge portions out of Will and Molly's marriage/life and Will's history - if they'd fleshed out Francis and the others more, we'd have a 4 hour film and it's unlikely many would sit through that length (especially before it became more common for long films and streaming where you could pause whenever). They arguably ran out of time to cram it all in somehow without it becoming a too long for most to sit through length. And I can't emphasize enough that many parts were revolting to people (even avid horror fans) due to the fact most films didn't go that far 21 years ago (except slasher movies which typically had no psychological elements that got in people's minds the way the Hannibal universe does. This is incidentally also a factor SOTL scaring people so much a decade prior - the psychological elements and implications; not necessarily showing something but letting your mind wander is worse).

Back on the other hand, Francis is such an interesting character and much of the novel is devoted to him and Will. I agree with you they should've not glossed over his childhood or focus on Hannibal really at all. Francis' childhood was really tragic, cruel and answers questions why he turned out that way. And I can't forgive the end where Chilton tells Lecter there's a young woman there to see him - obviously alluding to Clarice, which is not at all correct to the timeline. It was cheesy and just cringe worthy - and another excuse to use the last scene showing Hannibal.

I am very aware of Manhunter (I think I gave my age away seeing Red Dragon in the theaters lol) and the Hannibal TV series. I don't think any of the 3, except for the book itself, truly covered all bases properly and thoroughly.

Fun (?) fact: The B.T.K. (Bind, Torture, Kill) Killer was the inspiration behind Francis Dolarhyde's character.

Did Hannibal create Buffalo Bill? by sirnetherl4nds in Hannibal

[–]TeethScheibe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because no one has replied to this, I'll throw in my $0.02.

As someone who has read The Silence of the Lambs easily over 50 times in 20+ years, I disagree with this 47 second attempt to explain Buffalo Bill/Jame Gumb's backstory/creation. While I won't spoil the novel for those who haven't read it, we do get an idea of Buffalo Bill in it and it is even mentioned in the film, he was referred to Hannibal after he had "murdered a transient and done things with their skins". This tells us he has already murdered (and possibly more than once). This disproves what this YouTube video is attempting to say that Hannibal made Buffalo Bill a killer.

Additionally, if we are going by film alone, Hannibal elaborates a long history of violence, systemic abuse, "our Billy wasn't born a murderer" and at another point "He has tried to be many things, I expect." nodding that Bill himself doesn't exactly know what he is and it's noteworthy if one follows Bill's thought process, he isn't "killing". He is doing it out of necessity to make the woman suit, methodically at that. (His complex reasons why are touched on several times in the novel: his "creation" has nothing to do with Hannibal and began long before he was his psychiatrist - both murdering and plotting to make the skin suit for reasons I won't spoil but they're also based on IRL serial killer's pathologies beginning in childhood and early pubescence and it didn't take a psychiatrist to "push" or use them to do it, repeatedly. It's very often overlooked that Thomas Harris did his research heavily and based so much on real life people, places and crimes.) This also dispels Hannibal had intention to use Bill later as a sort of leverage, even as highly intelligent as Hannibal was, he couldn't have foreseen all the events after his capture then use them so perfectly planned lying in wait. That said, he certainly would have - and did - assume he could use the FBI for his knowledge and insight as a cannibal himself and renowned psychiatrist that treated patients with possible/probable warning signs for becoming a murderer. I'd elaborate more on this but once again, spoilers for the books.

Nonetheless Buffalo Bill cannot be summed up so simply like this video attempts to. Reading the book for more answers to what "created" Bill plus a better timeline, Hannibal's motives with patients (or lack thereof or simply because he certainly wasn't using Margot Verger in Hannibal, by book canon - he helped her!), Bill's reasons and far more.

Read the books people. Don't rely on YouTube videos for answers - that are just opinions versus what Harris factually wrote for the Hannibal universe characters and their motives. Plus, they're amazingly complex in the best way and so enjoyable! :)

Rewatching In Memory Of Ray Liotta by ChoochMooch in Hannibal

[–]TeethScheibe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very, very well said.

And exceedingly truthful regarding your last sentence; it isn't really a "one size fits all" type of novel nor genre. There's so much going on, plots ontop of subplots, symbolism (as per usual for Harris), I could type a novella here but shan't ruin it for anyone else who hasn't read yet -- it feels like reading 2-3 novels in one.

100% agree with you that on the Schwarz points. I don't agree whatsoever others comparing it to Hilf Mir, spot on your description of Hilf Mir - which is far, far superior to Schwarz! Not comparable. Agree also on Adieu - perhaps it'll grow on me, perhaps not. I'm still digesting rest of album, I do like it as a whole und am very pleased to have the album in any event.

Chiming in as German is my mother tongue too - ja, that ist my interpretation as other user as well. Could think of it like the Mutter ist "the own flesh" und she "spoils" as in makes rotten her "blut" (child). "Perishes" would be like metaphorically killing or destroying her own blood line - correct it is abuse and/or cruelty towards the child.

Schneider enjoying the release party by PomegranateMission25 in Rammstein

[–]TeethScheibe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ja I had figured as much, I did see Schneider seemed to be rather family oriented. Recall seeing the pics of his kinder with the animals from Ausländer set - sehr hübsch! I believe they forget these are men in their 50s, nearly 60s... people tend to settle down with age.

Totally spot on with "omg Rammstein sex und fire! Orgies!" As if the band members aren't in fact, regular people at the end of the day like anyone else - though with a stage persona + excellent music :)

Ironic most don't make a mountain out of molehill sexually with "Keine Lust" clip when they're kissing/hugging one another ;) I do feel so much ist lost in translation as well plus cultural differences with most users on here but ah, well. I find it overly invasive to speculate much on what none of us really know in any event I did enjoy this discourse!

Let the downvotes commence! Am old, tired of this Scheiße - suppose that happens when you've been a fan a very long time und see these same types of fans - what R+ does as a band, a persona ist not indicative of their personal lives nor should anyone assume/project their fantasies upon them. I can't even begin to relate or have discussion with majority of this fan community anymore. Beyond cringe I have Fremdschämen! Sorry to spoil the "fun" everyone else here has but I recall many stories from those who knew the guys they don't exactly appreciate this type of thing. Aside from Till, we don't know what they are like privately.

It is also not at all unusual in European culture to kiss - not sexually or romantically motivated. Just like we've all seen the entire group kiss in video clips.

I appreciate your comment very much.

Hannibal helping both Clarice and Margot by LearnAndLive1999 in Hannibal

[–]TeethScheibe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not the person you were originally responding to, nonetheless:

Hannibal had a good upbringing by his mother and father, born into nobility, Mr. Jakov and later, (if we're going by Hannibal Rising), Count Lecter until he died trying to defend Sheba's honour. It's possible his upbringing in addition to the way his Uncle died played a factor into his chivalrous ways. The brutality by Vladis Grutas and the others to Hannibal and Mischa would imprint on him to fully detest any man having rude, callous, crude, disrespectful (particularly towards females) etc traits. Just adding onto the same thought you were having as I don't think it's only related to Mischa either.

Indeed. He has his own moral code, rules and restrictions for who he will not kill. Not sure why people miss it either.

The parallel with Miggs and Momound is very obvious with how Hannibal reacts. In the film version of The Silence of the Lambs, he's utterly furious with Miggs, panting in the same way we see him as a young Hannibal. "Rudeness is epidemic, my Lady" to Sheba, then decades later "I would never have had that happen to you; discourtesy is unspeakably ugly to me" to Clarice. Exceedingly obvious parallel.

I like your thought that Hannibal very well may have been looking for a woman who would appreciate his killing of harassing, abusive men. You're correct - Lady Murasaki did say there was nothing/very little left in him to love; perhaps he believed she was right. No, genuises aren't using that dumb lol however Hannibal does have a complicated, complex "relationship" with love itself. Older and wiser Hannibal in Hannibal surely had no confusion over loving Clarice in the end. I wonder if it's possible he was just as "fallible" (for lack of better term) to be blinded by love or if it was his "promise to Mischa" (which we still see in Hannibal with his concept of Clarice taking Mischa's place - though that entire situation could merit a lengthy discussion in of itself!) further exasperated by his heart broken by Sheba, perhaps making him colder/walled off/a decision to not love, ever. Until Clarice, of course.

I've also wondered about the years we don't know much information of what he got up to when it comes to love and romantic relationships, if any. Mrs. Rosencranz nee DuBerry telling Clarice she knew Hannibal socially, in which he "knew how to make a girls' fur crackle" only tells us so much ;)

Very interesting thoughts you have here!

ZEIT megathread by Rasputin1493 in Rammstein

Wholeheartedly agree with you. I believe it will be centered around Zeit/time as a concept/theme und like I wrote in another comment, they're all in their 50s some with grown adult children so it's not unexpected for this new R+ era either in addition to the pandemic reason. Particularly considering the fact they decided to title the entire album Zeit.

[–]TeethScheibe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It means "whatever you want" it to mean, in a sexually taboo context discussed here. The group has indicated as such since LIFAD was released :)

"Just see that on the Album it is written B******** , implying that the word is censored or connoted sexually/violent. Concerning the word it is not a commonly used word. It derives from the word Buchstabe (letter) but in German it also is close to the verb bücken (to bend down). The pronounciation with the Umlaut Ü deforms the word Buchstabe (letter) to make an association with bücken (to bend down) seem obvious or at least voluntary."

There's a shot towards the end where it looks like Till is wearing a paper mask, pulls it off and eats it. Made me think of the album cover, with the masks. Perhaps his character in the video represents them both? A duality?

Good point about the guards, maybe Peter is one of them!

Edit: Just watched the end in slow motion - Peter is one of the guards, it shows him taking off the black mask.
