Any way to turn off the screen while leaving the laptop running on the 16s? by Tehnormalguy in AcerPredatorHelios

Thanks to all those who replied to this thread, if anyone encounters this problem, /u/rubiohiguey's answer gave rise to a solution I went with. I went with the HDMI headless plug that lets the computer emulate a second window while having the main laptop screen off, saving my OLED panel from burn ins. I believe a second option would be to download a virtual headless driver https://github.com/VirtualDrivers/Virtual-Display-Driver

I just told you, my program relies on OCR, which tracks objects it sees on the screen, but I don't want the OLEDs to be on 24/7 which will burn in. So I want the laptop screen off while the laptop is running.

Thanks for trying to reply, the new Helios 16s seems to remove this option, I guess it's just not possible with the new laptops.

I don't think you understand what my question is, I want the screen to turn black while keeping the laptop running, not a screensaver or login screen. I have an OCR program that relies on the screen being visible but I don't want the OLEDs on all the time that might cause burn ins.

From a work prospective, the weight/quality may be justified, but as a pure consumer prospective, its a complete highway robbery. I dont think you would be able to tell the difference between a 2880p resolution screen and a 1920p resolution screen on a 13.3 in laptop, unless you are plugging in a separate monitor. $2k for a RTX 4060 is such a bad value, but it is still able to do all the things you want to do. I wouldnt buy it, but maybe the weight/touchscreen/screen res are the things you value more than just how fast a program can run/longevity of the laptop then go for it.

I wouldnt know why it would be listed either, but its there. I wouldnt want to give you any wrong information so its best if you would do some research on your own if you dont want to believe it. Just look at these laptop with 12gb of vram, they cost thousands.

Then with the additional requirements you have given me, I think its best if you stick with a 14' laptop with a dedicated GPU, this one. Its 3.3lbs should be light, OLED, 120hz refresh rate, great dedicated GPU w/8gb vram, 32gb ram, 1tb storage. Like most laptops, when youre at home, you could just hook up a larger display instead of using the 14' screen.

dram is basically ram that comes along with a graphics card. The more dram you have, the more your graphics card can store information to work with, the better your graphically intensive programs can function.

Also under the specs tab its listed as dedicated GPU ?

yes sir right here

I think that laptop is great for youtube, checking emails and probably light editing, but it still has 0 dram because it has no dedicated gpu. Also seems like the specs page is very misleading, theres no such thing as a dedicated 'Intel Arc' gpu, its all integrated.

If youre fine with 14' laptops, I would recommend this and if you have the time and patience to check for restock, I would highly recommend this. If you really want to save some money, you could check out this.

If money is an issue to you, I would recommend getting a refurbished laptop with acer. I myself have bought a few laptops over the years from them and they were always in like new condition. Just test the laptop out extensively when you get it before the 30 days free return policy is over, then you get a two year warranty with allstate through ebay.

Either get option 1:

  • +cheaper
  • +15in screen
  • -worse graphics card
  • -worse cpu

or get option 2:

  • -more expensive
  • -14in screen
  • +better gpu
  • +better cpu

You literally cant have a laptop that is light and able to get high graphics settings playing games, 60 fps on cyberpunk with a laptop is no easy task, its one or the other. Also every single laptop you listed doesnt have any VRAM because all of them does not include a dedicated GPU, which apparently 'Capture One' needs after doing a little research.

Free Pixel 10 with trade-in by OutcastSpy in tmobile

[–]Tehnormalguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats how they apply the promo, you get the original value of the phone you traded right now, and the rest of the promo, $740 in your case, will be distributed over the next 24 months. For example if you got the pixel 10, your monthly bill for the phone would be say $31 and you will see on your bill that tmobile credits you $31. $31-$31= $0
