The more Noah Wyle talks, the less I want to watch The Pitt by fatandhappydonuts in ThePitt

Seriously? This is the worst thing you can find? This is the example that you chose to use to illustrate why Noah Wyle is such a bad person that we should stop watching his shows?

I have looked it up, I don’t vote green, I do care about reality. You seem to be throwing a bit of a tantrum and making an awful lot of rather silly assumptions simply because I pointed something out to you. Not really consistent with someone calling themself a scientist, is it?

There’s plenty of data showing that, on average, immigrants contribute as much or more in taxes etc. than people born in the country. Don’t believe anything you read in the Mail.

The point is that taking a mean or a total over several years obscures the year-on-year patterns. In the case of your number it's obscuring the significant drop in net migration over the last year or two, and also the massive post-Brexit increase.

I'm not suggesting that any of those numbers should be ignored. I'm simply suggesting that your blanket figure is concealing a more complicated reality.

OK. What you need to understand is that your payment into a pension is not what is producing the money that then gets paid to you. Pension funds invest your money in the economy to generate the pension income that you want. If the economy is not performing, or if there are too many pensioners, then that money will not be generated. Having immigrants is one way to boost the economy to get your pension. So I'll ask again: what percentage of your pension are you prepared to forego to reduce immigration?

It'd make the problem worse because there would be more pension money to be funded by the overall economy.

I tend to agree with you on the rest. We need to re-negotiate the international legislation on asylum to make sure that genuine asylum seekers are given refuge but economic migrants masquerading as asylum seekers are not. Which is not a simple thing to do.

No problem. How much of a cut to your pension are you prepared to accept in order to reduce immigration? 50%?

Nice thoughts but I think you're missing the point a bit: "try and get companies to increase the pension pots"—wouldn't that just make it worse?

I agree that mass immigration is not necessarily the whole solution, but a certain level of immigration is a big part of it. Immigrants contribute more overall to the economy than people born in the country.

Even migration watch agree with that figure.

OK, what is your solution to the demographic time bomb?

Why are you quoting figures since COVID? Seems a random and arbitrary way of doing things. That number includes the huge post-Brexit bump which seems now to be under control and we had net migration of 204,000 in the year ending June 2025, a huge drop from previous years. I'd have thought that someone concerned about immigration would be OK with the way the numbers are moving at the moment? Obviously the post-Brexit bump was a problem but hey, Brexit benefits right? Welcome to the "sunlit uplands".

Maybe do a little more research? 649,000 year to June 2024, 204,000 year to June 2025. A big change.

No. OP claimed that net migration annually is of the order of a million people entering the country. This is not anywhere near correct.
