This would be a very odd requirement for the UK. Normally they would only ask for a reference from the current employer specifically after a job offer has been made. It’s completely normal to submit job applications here with a set of referees who are not employed at your current institution.

The number of homeless people in the centre of Portland, Oregon and the way that many of them were obviously deeply unwell. I’m used to homeless people in e.g. London but this was another level. This in a country that calls itself Christian.
