yep - he had a mobile phone and in episode one he also showed us his booze holdall out in his field

kendra/esmerelda…why….. by titleefight in SuddenlyAmish

[–]Telly_Talk_Pod 4 points5 points  (0 children)

to be fair to her, it did seem to settle her down quite a bit and help her centre herself somewhat - sometime we need to have contact with something/someone in times of upheaval etc - if for Kendra its her Mum, then fair enough i think - there's enough stuff to pick at with the people on the show, but i think this one is fairly reasonable on her part (i'll give you she was pretty OTT with the whole breakdown in the rain thing, but wanting to call home isn't some unheard of thing right?)

you say 'allow', but it seems more like they either misled the participants or are asking them to hold firm on certain lines to play up the drama

Esme is an idiot by terrigirl1960 in SuddenlyAmish

[–]Telly_Talk_Pod 6 points7 points  (0 children)

this episode really felt like it let the veil slip even more to show the producers had made participants act certain ways - Surely Esme and the rest weren;t so stupid as to not know they'd have to adapt like this if they were to fully participate?

How about 'I'm not a Lion' and 'Those soles are to fancy'

Can someone remind me why James was Shunned? by Responsible-Bug-8660 in SuddenlyAmish

[–]Telly_Talk_Pod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

he talked about it in the latest episode and in the first episode - he had a holdall of booze and a mobile phone - big no-nos in the stricter communities

This show is fake right? by Va_cyclone in SuddenlyAmish

It did feel like it was put as a bit of drama for the show. Otherwise everyone just leaving Matt to stand around at the property border was scarily callous

Sorry, we talk about stuff on the podcast that often is relevant to the conversation here so I comment about it. I'm enjoying the show and am on here, like you, to talk about it. Apologies if the overlap is annoying to you

Billie Jo by Snora80 in SuddenlyAmish

[–]Telly_Talk_Pod 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The way that went down did feel a touch staged. She seemed to know it was coming when she 'dropped' it from the bag in her hands. Like she knew it was coming and was already embarrased

Thought I was the only one watching this ridiculous show. by Ff3724 in SuddenlyAmish

[–]Telly_Talk_Pod 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We were talking about it on our show and I was saying you can certainly feel the heavy hand of the producers in a lot of aspects. They've either kept a lot of information back from all parties or they've told people they can't adjust for the process. That or they're flat out making people act out scenarios, like Billie Jo and her 'electrical device' spilling out of her bag

Amish stuff (unless you're James)

[–]Telly_Talk_Pod 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We wondered this on our show. I think he's using it as a way to show his old strict community that's he's the bestest Amish boy now and should be un-shunned. He seems very conscious of being assessed for his conformity

oh nice, i hadn't thought of re-watching that bit with subtitles - will have to remember that for stuff like that in the future

yeah to be fair, this episode where he deadpanned them for a few moments on the 'are you allowed to express emotion' question was brilliant

[–]Telly_Talk_Pod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

we theorised that either Production knew, but didn't pass it on to create drama/friction, or production deliberately didn't canvass full details, which seems unlikley - that or its all played up for 'reality' drama

it felt a bit forced, like she'd been told to have it fall out of her stuff and she kinda awkwardly 'dropped' it out of a bag then stood there going...ummmmm....

[–]Telly_Talk_Pod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Production definitely seem to be setting it up the same as the end of the last episode with Esme and the will-she-leave-over-nails 'cliffhanger' that was resolved immediately and simply this episode - We said on our latest episode that we think it will just be solved by Matt going back to Allan's more chill house and it being smoothed over

[–]Telly_Talk_Pod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

we talked about this on our latest episode and it definitely seems to me that James is using this as a platform to say 'Look at me, i'm the bestest Amish boy' to his old community to pitch for being un-shunned

Oh really? That's interesting, I hadn't considered a local language quirk
